Conservatives have spent the last couple months calling everyone who disagrees with them a pedophile, and now they’re setting their sights on the Trevor Project, an organization that runs a hotline and other resources to fight LGBTQ youth suicide.

Colin Wright, an editor of the anti-LGBTQ website Quillette, shared a comic from the Trevor Project that explained how teens could erase browser history so that they could get help even if they are worried about being outed to their parents.

Related: Calls to The Trevor Project suicide hotline are up since Trump elected president

Wright didn’t seem able to understand how something like this could help young people and instead said that the point of the feature is to “keep parents in the dark.”

Others on the right equated the Trevor Project with pedophilia, implying that an organization reaching out to LGBTQ teens in crisis is the same as a child sex abuser having sexually charged conversations with minors, as if any conversation involving LGBTQ identities is inherently pornographic.

“Why is the Trevor Project encouraging children to keep secrets from their parents?” the far-right organization Moms for Liberty responded.

There is so much stupid in this one post to even start to unravel it. The claim by republicans/conservatives that the Trevor Project is pedophilia is an act of psychological projection on their part. It seems that many of them are self-hating LGBTQ and are deep in the closet themselves.

LGBTQ teens would not have to keep their sexuality/gender in the dark if their parents weren't such ignorant bigots.

Maybe they want to talk to someone who isn’t an overbearing chode. And they ask why. :)

If teens felt safe talking to their parents about their sexuality and their mental health they wouldn't need The Trevor Project, but obviously that isn't true. This is why TTP exists. Maybe the GOP should take a hint instead of claiming that everyone who isn't heterosexual and CIS is a pedophile. If they truly wanted to hunt down pedophiles they would look at their church.

The Trevor Project is a lot more than just a hotline - which isn’t what I objected to so I don’t know the reason for your screed.

I'm well aware of what The Trevor Project is. What part of their mission did you object to?

If a parent objects to their LGBTQ child calling a hotline such as this, they are probably a bad parent.

Giving parents absolute authority over their children is the surest way to enable child abuse.

Any teen who feels the need to call the Trevor Project's suicide hotline likey has parents that are not meeting their needs and are emotionally and or physically abusive. The teen would be better off with parents who sincerely cared about their welfare.

They also tend to look more like the LGB “alliance”. TERFs and the right wing kissing cousins.

Our rights to exist as equals are not determined by popular vote. This is why the Bill of Rights exists to guarantee all people equal rights regardless if they are 250 million or 3 people.

That last one is easy. Since it was responding to a quote by a conservative asking why would they want to keep parents in the dark, he is saying the kids don't want to talk to an overbearing chode, e.g. their parents, since they will not get support there.

Honestly, when I read it I thought she was doing a support reply, building an agreeing post off of yours.
