One conservative college professor’s support for traditional marriage was enough for one online commenter to brand him “the biggest embarrassment to higher education in America.”

How the professor responded was pretty fantastic.

“While I respect your right to conclude that I am the biggest embarrassment to higher education in America, I think you’re wrong,” Mike Adams, professor of sociology and criminology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington told “Edward” in an open letter. “In fact, I don’t even think I’m the biggest embarrassment to higher education in the state of North Carolina. But since you’re a liberal and you support ‘choice’ – provided we’re talking about dismembering children and not school vouchers for those who weren’t dismembered – I want to give you some options.”

He then laid out nine examples of truly outrageous antics by other professors, administrators and campus groups in North Carolina to see how he stacks up, including:

I took a look at his nine things and I'm willing to wager that the way he characterized some of them (if not all them) are not entirely accurate ... and I would not have responded with "since you're a liberal" or "since you're a conservative" ... academics should focus on the issue or argument, not on who made it ... he had a chance to educate folks, and blew it ... but I'm sure that you and other cons will enjoy it -- and that's why he responded as he did - he's a crusader ...

but a word on Adams ... above all, he is an ideologue, a sociologist second ... I know several sociologists on the left that I'd characterize in exactly the same way, and both are embarrassments to the discipline ...

Being from the Carolina's I can tell you that those instances really happened, they talk about them on the Radio in Charlotte all the time and make fun of them often and say "Is this where education has gone? Down the toilet."

I wish I had more time to look into these, and in fact, I'll see if can create some time to do it ... no doubt they get played out on the radio (which is more of what Adams really is, a media guy), but how accurate are they, especially if they're having fun? this country, and especially conservatives, tend to be anti-intellectual ... it's one of Palin's appeals to many people ... so forgive me me if I'm a little cautious ...

Neither is the claim of the professor he's responding to accurate at the outset. I don't disagree that this seems personal in nature, but remember that when one starts lobbing grenades, one should expect some lobbed back as well. Both of these guys are ideologues to some extent, so claiming one is without including the other is odd. Kind of like something an ideologue might do.

The S&M session sounded informational, the dog thing was taken to potential excess, the prostitute was wildly inappropriate, and the signing of the buttplugs was perhaps over the top (but otherwise fine).

As for the professor being an embarrassment, no, I would say not. Nevertheless, I think it largely incorrect.

Neither is the claim of the professor he's responding to accurate at the outset. I don't disagree that this seems personal in nature, but remember that when one starts lobbing grenades, one should expect some lobbed back as well. Both of these guys are ideologues to some extent, so claiming one is without including the other is odd. Kind of like something an ideologue might do.

I didn't say the other guy wasn't an ideologue, nor did I suggest it ... I want my good name (I mean moniker) back! (Actually, never mind, it wasn't good to begin with ... my bad)

So believing in traditional marriage is an inexcusable act of intolerance in the highest order, but teaching, promoting, and celebrating pornography and deviant sexuality to 18-year-olds on college campuses is.....acceptable and progressive?
