Conservative logic

First premise: Obama believes in socialized medicine
Second premise: Karl Marx believed in socialized medicine
Conclusion: Obama is a Marxist

A combination of unsound deductive reasoning and an implied guilt by association fallacy.

I don't think political zealouts necessarily care about following logic. That goes for both liberals and conservatives. However, I think conservatives have taken it the extreme the last several years due to political commentators on FOX. It's very embarrassing to some of the more rational conservatives.

To be fair a number of conservatives on this site don't think like that. They will criticize President Obama for having socialist policies, but not of being communist/marxist/socialist. But both sides fall to faulty logic like that.

Socialist policies? Socialized medicine and the redistribution of wealth are by no means exclusively socialist policies. It's funny by the way that socialized medicine get branded "socialist" because its state-run, while the police are also state run . . . Seems some of these people will only be happy when medicine is completely privatized, the state is abolished and we can get policed by a Mafia who only protect you if you pay. Yes, socialism killed 100 million . . . actually, **** it, 200 million (whatever we prefer), facts don't mean anything if they work against us.

surrealistpenguin logic:

First premise: I've seen a conservative (or a few) make this argument.
Second premise: All conservatives think exactly alike.
Conclusion: All conservatives make this argument.

Strawman.

If you read my post carefully you'll see that I said "I've read a few posts by conservatives" not "All posts re: Obama follow this argument". You = Critical Fail.

I don't think so. You called it "conservative logic." Not "some conservatives' logic." Then you used sweeping "yous" when making your point and lamented the whole of humanity.

If you meant to be more specific, you should have used more precise language.

Actually, you don't need to even go that far to find the hole in conservative logic. They are merely throwing incorrect phrases around. Obama does not believe in socialized medicine. AT most he believes in the existence of socialized health insurance that would compete with private health insurance companies. Even then, I'm not clear we can call it socialized health insurance since members of this insurance would still be paying premiums into the bucket. Socialized medicine would mean hospitals, doctors, pharmacies all under employment the way law enforcement and fire departments are employed by the govt.

I see strawmen walking

I'm a Conservative.
I believe in Universal Healthcare.
I don't like President Obama.

Extrapolate from that.

That's a very disappointing thing to read, I'm sorry to see you feel this way to be honest.

Conservative logic = oxymoron

Sorry, but it had to be said.
