Prime Minister Justin Trudeau slammed a Conservative MP’s statements questioning the loyalty of Canada’s top doctor to her country as Tory Leader Andrew Scheer refused to comment on the remarks.
Ontario MP Derek Sloan, who is running to replace Mr. Scheer as leader of the Conservative Party, called for Dr. Theresa Tam to be fired in fundraising emails and social media posts this week.
"Dr. Tam must go! Canada must remain sovereign over decisions,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Does she work for Canada or for China,” Mr. Sloan asked in a Facebook video posted late Tuesday.
Article here. So a leadership candidate and rookie MP for the Conservatives has made racist comments towards Dr. Tam and since Scheer or the party itself refuses to comment or do anything about it I guess the remarks have the Conservative party seal of approval. And to have this make even less sense Dr. Tam was not even born in or has connections to China, she was born in British Hong Kong, grew up in the UK, and educated in the UK and Canada.
It's all they've got. The CPC is officially brain dead, and obsolete in this new world we find ourselves in. Expect more similar rhetoric, it's their death rattle.
Canada has changed, I don’t think you appreciate that, there’s more people than you would think that this kind of rhetoric resonates with.
I have severe issues with Trudeau and but there’s people where I live that hate him and can’t even articulate it properly, they just hate him just because and they have the ****ing balls to say that Ottawa isn’t helping them enough when they had it good for decades and didn’t bother to spend money to diversify the economy better when they had the oil money, I’m like **** my dear, I’ve lived in the Maritimes, you wanna talk about being ignored by Ottawa? And then you vote in the Tories again who did what?
Slashed taxes for big corporations who laid off people anyway and then cut school funding, ****ing up your kids education.
Beyond that there is now far more nativist sentiment in Canada than ever before, some of these troglodytes literally wish Trump would be their leader and that they had been born in an Alabama trailer park.
Dude, don’t ignore this because again, it resonates more than you think

At least, that's the way it looks from here, I hope you don't mind if I personally root for you being wrong instead of me on this one.
Believe me mate, I'd rather you be right.
First you say: The CPC is officially brain dead, and obsolete in this new world we find ourselves in. Expect more similar rhetoric, it's their death rattle.
Followed by: I'm finding that injecting more patience than disdain is helping in conversations with my somewhat...confused(?) friends.
Yeah, not so much. Disdain - 100%, "patience" - 0%.
Read better...I said with my friends. I do what I can within my sphere of influence. The CPC are neither my friends, nor within my sphere of influence.
I'm sorry that didn't work out how you thought it would, though.
Calling you friends (confused?) was condescending to the point that you were clearly talking about people who were not your friends. If you truly were talking about your friends, then I'm glad I'm not one of them.
Canada needs to develop a conscienous conservatism which stresses fiscal discipline, reducing corporate welfare and dealing with social issues with both the best interests of the society and the best interests of the deficit/debt in mind, simultaneously. Centrist, compassionate conservatism is what is needed, but alas, there is very little electoral constituency for that in today's Canada. We must build a demand for that kind of Conservative Party and pull it away from regionalism, tribalism and xenophobia as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
With respect to the racial slur against Dr. Tam, such language is disgusting but also regrettably to be expected from the more xenophobic factions of Canadian society, which would like to replace our multicultural society with a more homogeneous European but non-French immigrant population. Fortunately these factions (not all of which call themselves Conservatives) are small despite having disproportionately loud voices in the social media milieu. Thus a deliberate policy of marginalisation should be taken to minimise their impact on Canadian politics. Such proponents of xenophobia should be relentlessly and savagely ridiculed and shamed publicly until they stop spreading their poisonous ideas to the wider populace. This should be both Government policy and the mission of many private Canadians of all party affiliations until this nasty djinn is forced back into its archaic and damnable bottle.
Cheers and be well.
Evilroddy.
This would all be very interesting if I gave a single **** about anything you had to say about, well, anything.Sorry, bud, you fall below my standard of people worth getting in a tizzy over.
Aaawwwwwwww, now you hurt my widdle feelings.
Never the less, I think I just might be able to soldier on despite the pain.
Certainly, Canada needs responsible and conscientious conservatives. But people will still shallowly accuse them of bigotry, racism and xenophobia no matter their actual conduct or rhetoric because all that needs to be done is to have it pointed out that a single loud-mouthed racist voted for them. Then the News Casters can ask in their smarmy fashion the conscientious conservatives why on Earth their movement seems to appeal to the worst people in society.
