I'm not sure what to call Matt Walsh, but he works for Ben Shapiro or something. Anyway, here he is saying that voting rights should only be reserved for elite people because the masses are too stupid to steer 'democracy' correctly.

This is not a new sentiment among the right wing, and is what I suspect most of them believe. Saying you support democracy is fine when you can win elections. However, conservatives can't win federal elections without suppressing the vote, because they know their ideas are not palatable to the average person. That ship sailed after Bush. Even when they cheat they generally lose, so they have to resort to more voter suppressing tactics to maintain power. This is why those of us with sense believe that democracy is in peril. If they attain power without fundamentally sabotaging democracy, they will never win another election. The last heist is always the biggest.

Don't worry, the Hillary / Sinema ticket will save us.

Much better to support and secure votes for the "I won or I won" candidate. We know who he is.

Isn't that why we elect representatives, so that we don't have to spend time governing ourselves? Is Walsh pitching for massive investment in education? I think not. We certainly don't want those "stupid people" to become well educated.

Who's talking? Sounds like a LW circle jerk.

I watched this on Youtube. It is stunningly bad.

Name one thing conservatives are doing to suppress voting. And don't say voter ID, you have to show ID to buy booze or airline tickets ffs.

I don't open video links but going by your summary my guess is that any right-wing pundit who advocates that you should have to qualify to vote (and it barely matters what the qualifying criteria are) shouldn't be interrupted while he's making a big mistake.

I don't know who Matt Walsh is...probably because I don't pay much attention to talking potato heads...but if he said what you say he said (I didn't watch the video, either, he is wrong.

So...I suggest you don't get too excited about this.

What, exactly, about the winners of the primaries for the past few years suggests he's wrong?

I don't know about the "quiet part" - I've been advocating that we limit the vote to people who can pass the Citizenship Exam for years.

Anyway, here he is saying that voting rights should only be reserved for elite people because the masses are too stupid to steer 'democracy' correctly.

Let's consider the political left's views regarding the masses:

1. The masses are too stupid to decide how much to work for, therefore the state must impose minimum wage laws.

2. The masses are too stupid to hire other people, therefore the state must set up occupational licensing schemes to restrict their choices.

3. The masses are too stupid and violent to own and carry firearms.

4. The masses are too stupid to decide which drugs to put into their own bodies, therefore we need a prescription drug system to restrict their choices.

I'll stop there, but no one thinks less of the masses than the political left. You view the masses as petulant children, to be controlled and dominated by the state.

Why do we allow citizenship for people who intend to use the tools of democracy to destroy it?
It's the one thing that ultimately sets free western nations apart from actually being true hardcore shitholes.

The reason democracy goes out of fashion for the powerful is because their aren't enough people left to sustain their power. Thus is born some variation of an autocracy. It represents something fundamentally broken about a society that would voluntarily surrender power to the corrupt few -- which is why it generally doesn't happen in a society where people have power over their leaders. Those who do seek to surrender their power do so under duress of misery; thinking that the corrupt few will act in their interests (generally for social / racial reasons).

One of the tactics of fascism is to foment fear and misery within a population, direct it towards an 'other' (immigrants, ethnic minorities, gays, socialists), then have the population volunteer to surrender their power in order to fix it. Often these people will say that their nation was great, and that it can great again under new leadership.

*cough*

Try "The WAP Guy's Squire".

I think that captures his pathetic nature. He wishes he was the guy who is like a version of Wormtongue that nobody in power really listens to.

I can believe that you do. Should they also count jellybeans?

Fun Fact: He's probably talking about quite a few Trump Voters as well as idiots on the left.

He offers some specific proposals: voting should be allowed only for “tax-paying adults,” with adults defined as age 25 and up, who can pass a Civics exam on the 6th-grade level, and who are capable of and willing to leave their house on voting day and go to a physical polling place to cast a vote.

I would make the Civics Exam the Citizenship test, and, would continue to allow mail-in-voting as determined by State Governments (who should be determining their own rules, there). Changing the voting age to at least the age at which the frontal cortex is done developing makes sense, too.

Name one thing conservatives are doing to suppress voting. And don't say voter ID, you have to show ID to buy booze or airline tickets ffs.

That was not what the loon in the OP video was advocating. He clearly had more than possessing an ID card in mind to determine (prove?) who was “most qualified” to be granted the (state issued privilege?) to vote. He was asserting that voting was not a right, but rather a state issued privilege which should be reserved for only the “most qualified” among the citizenry.

Let's consider the political left's views regarding the masses:

1. The masses are too stupid to decide how much to work for, therefore the state must impose minimum wage laws.

A healthy conversation could be had over the minimum wage, once you provide for the minimum requirements for existence within a society (e.g. healthcare, food / shelter), and greatly empower unions. Like in Nordic countries, which are generally the happiest places on Earth.

2. The masses are too stupid to hire other people, therefore the state must set up occupational licensing schemes to restrict their choices.

You mean like having qualified people look after and/or teach children? Or have qualified people in construction? Building regulations? Give me a specific.

3. The masses are too stupid and violent to own and carry firearms.

No, but be we shouldn't let domestic abusers and worse have access to firearms. Should we?

4. The masses are too stupid to decide which drugs to put into their own bodies, therefore we need a prescription drug system to restrict their choices.

I don't know where to start with this. Are you advocating for an end to the war on drugs, that prescription drugs should be more easily accessible, or that you should be able to drink your own urine?

I'll stop there, but no one thinks less of the masses than the political left. You view the masses as petulant children, to be controlled and dominated by the state.

Okay then...

Yeah. And think about it - our current structure puts these people in charge of the most powerful government in the history of the human species.

I can believe that you do. Should they also count jellybeans?

There is no obvious connection to the ability to at least know what one is doing when one votes. :) The Citizenship Exam should suffice.

A fascists. He’s a fascists.
I don't follow him, to be sure, but, I can't say that I've ever heard him advocate for socialism in one nation - would you mind providing a source?
