Haha. New song I downloaded by Todd Snider

Lyrics:
Conservative Christian, right wing Republican, straight, white, American male.
Gay bashin’, black fearin’, poor fightin’, tree killin’, regional leaders of the South
Frat housin’, keg tappin’, shirt tuckin’, back slappin’ haters of hippies like me.
Tree huggin’, peace lovin’, pot smokin’, porn watchin’ lazyass hippies like me.
Tree huggin’, love makin’, pro choicen, gay weddin’, widespread diggin’ hippies like me.
Skin color-blinded, conspiracy-minded, protestors of corporate greed,
We who have nothing and most likely will ‘till we all wind up locked up in jails
By conservative Christian, right wing Republican, straight, white, American males,.

Diamonds and dogs, boys and girls, living together in two separate worlds
Following leaders of mountains of shame, looking for someone to blame.

Diamonds and dogs, boys and girls, living together in two separate worlds
Following leaders of mountains of shame, looking for someone to blame.
I know who I like to blame:

Conservative Christian, right wing Republican, straight, white, American males,
Soul savin’, flag wavin’, Rush lovin’, land pavin’ personal friends to the Quayles
Quite diligently workin’ so hard to keep the free reins of this Democracy
From tree huggin’, peace lovin’, pot smokin’, barefootin’ folk-singin’ hippies like me.
Tree huggin’, peace lovin’, pot smokin’, porn watchin’ lazyass hippies like me.

So pick a side, which extreme are you? (I am definitely the title... to a T)

Politics are politics and people are people. It takes all kinds for this big ol' world to go round and round.

But I was wondering after reading Danarhea's poll study, just what is it EXACTLY about the rightwing ideology that attracts so many asshats?

I highly suspect that the "prickness" of the people who generally follow rightwing ideologies is one of the main reasons the GOP got their arse handed to them on a platter the last elections. The O'Reilly's, Limbaugh's, NP's, Aquapubs,ToT's....you know. The more outspoken types on the right. Seems people just LOVE to hate 'em.

It must suck to be there. :(

America spoke with an overwhelming voice the last elections when they basically told these types of people to shut the hell up, we don't want you. Go away. The irony to their delusion is, they STILL think people like them are mainstream America and the true voice of the people. That delusin takes arrogance into narcism. Simply unbelievable.

And most of them, outside of their political viewpoints, are very nice, hard working people. It's kinda sad about them getting kicked to the curb and told to shut the hell up. Chalk one up to karmha.

It's almost scary.
It reminds me of rapists who, even when caught, insist their victims "wanted it".
And actually believe that.

These neoconservatives, the ones still insisting, even after the GOP's ignominious defeat, that they represent the mainstream... I truly believe they would destroy our democratic process, if only they could figure out a way to do so and get away with it.
Either by force or by deception and trickery (ie, "Diebold diddling"), they'd take away our right to elect the leaders of our choice.
And the scary part is, they would feel justified in doing so. They wouldn't feel like they were doing anything wrong. They would truly believe that they were doing it "for our own good".
They would honestly believe that the mainstream- the general public- implicitly supported them in this endeavor.
The arrogance and presumption of these folks is astounding, monumental.
It literally blinds them to objective reality.

methinks that you are being a bit unfair to the republicans. They did control the much of the western world for six years. No rapist ever got that close.

I don't think TOT's a prick, myself, but as far as the attraction to any right wing ideology in general, I think the main attraction is that it IS an ideology. More specifically, in the the way it is promoted in this country, it presents itself in Manichaean terms as a great struggle between opposing forces. Since it presents the world in absolutes rather than shades of grey, those with a predisposition for expressing unease towards ambivalance find comfort in the fact that conservative ideology presents the world in such a clear cut fashion. Just listen to any of the conservative talk show pundits and all use the same techniques as far as creating loyalty to a group -- a group defined in terms of ideology -- as they uniformly vilify the opposing group. Good vrs. bad. The stubbornness with which people cling to this group identity is what makes them "prickish" in that they automatically vilify anybody who does not share the same, exact precepts. Just look at how often those with moderate or even slightly conservative positions are labelled as "liberal" buy the more dogmatic. My group, Your group. Never the twain shall meet.

Having said that, I find that the left side of the aisle is just as prone to this prickishness, since o many of the left have simply fashioned themselves as mirror images of these righties. Just look at the knee-jerk apologia for Islamism or the European style political correctness where dogma has replaced anything remotely resembling common sense. This is the expression of a political fundamentalism every bit as rigid and conformist as that on the right.

AS far as I'm concerned, anybody who chooses a political ideology and then sets about the task of conforming to it is by nature a "prick". They are a prick because they have stopped asking questions, have closed their mind and have taken the intellectually lazy way out. Instead of selecting an ideology first and then rationalizing all their attitudes back from that point, I prefer people who decide upon their values first and then build their own ideology around these values. In my experience, there is one of the latter to dozens of the former, and so the pricks outnumber those who aren't by very nature.

Did...you just compare Conservatives to rapists? :( That really isn't very nice... The same could be said about liberal hollywood and the media forcing all their immorality in all the shows as if the majority of the American people want it. And all the ones who hate the idea of God being mentioned in public even though the majority of the US identifies itself as Christian.

Aren't there more red states than blue? I'm just saying that that isn't a nice thing to say, and it could go both ways but it's still a very vile comment. :(

I just compared conservatives who still insist, even after the GOP's ignominious defeat last month, that they represent the mainstream to rapists who, when apprehended, claim that their victims asked for it.

That really isn't very nice...

I agree. It isn't very nice at all. They should accept that the majority of the population wants nothing to do with their oppressive and fringey beliefs. But they can't, because their arrogance blinds them to reality.

Aren't there more red states than blue?

Not anymore. / smug grin.

Say, wait a minute... that disingenuous question is a perfect example of the phenomenon I just described in my post.

I was just asking. I thought there were more red states. But actually some Dems are the ones supporting rapists, republicans want to put them in jail...

Sorry, I just don't like that word comparison, using it to describe either side is really nasty, but both sides are equally as guilty if you have to. Never mind, it just bugged me last night, anything would have been better than that. And I would have said that it was nasty if a Conservative had said it too, so I'm not just picking on you personally. But I haven't seen a Conservative compare them to liberals...

Well, I for one can tell you that after we lost the midterms, I was so disheartened that I couldn't even muster the energy to commit my usual Wednesday morning rape.:(

Hopefully we do well in the 07 city council elections so I'll get that fire burning inside again.

...And sarcastic joking about it is just as sick as her comparison. :(

(And now I'm finished, not meaning to bother y'all, those are just my thoughts on that.)

Southern Belle, if you've got something to say about "rape", spit it out.
Quit beating around the bush.
Go post a thread about it, and I'll participate.
You seem to be flapping around the concept repeatedly, unable to quit poking at it, and it's obvious you have some input on the issue you'd like to share.
Go start a thread.

If I've offended you, I apologize. I have a somewhat twisted sense of humor, and try to operate under an "offend everyone equally" policy. Nevertheless, I understand that certain subjects have more of an impact for some than others, so please accept my apology.

I just think they are the lowest, sickest most horrible criminals and they deffinately need punishing. Some democrats want to protect their rights so to hear a liberal compare them to Republicans was very nasty and it was late and I just went off on you, I'm sorry 1069. I don't usually ever even talk about them. I don't want a thread because it's too disgusting some of the responses I know will come.

Right, thank you, I just don't find that funny at all, I know others do. I just had to mention that it was as gross as 1069 because if I didn't that would make me a hippocrit.

Oh sorry, I was looking for the Music & Entertainment Forum. My bad.

*snort*

I'm reminded of a client who once told me that he was a sucker for a good, well timed abortion joke.
