(Reuters) - The pedestal for a Confederate monument called Silent Sam that has been a flashpoint for demonstrations at a North Carolina university will be removed, the school’s president said on Monday, nearly five months after protesters toppled the statue.

The plan to remove the statue’s base and commemorative plaques was outlined by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill chancellor Carol Folt, in a statement that also said she would resign after this academic year’s graduation ceremonies.

Both the statue & base will be preserved elsewhere on campus.

I expect a lot of alumni donations will be removed too.

doubt it
tends to be the uneducated who support and defend erecting and maintaining statues celebrating those who sought to topple the US government

Access Denied

A judge on Wednesday voided the settlement that requires UNC Chapel Hill to pay $2.5 million and give the Silent Sam Confederate monument to the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

The ruling came at a hearing held to determine whether the Sons of Confederate Veterans had the legal standing to bring the lawsuit against the UNC System over the statue in the first place. Orange County Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour, who approved the settlement in November, reversed himself on Wednesday and said the group didn’t have standing.

the chapel hill historian documented for the court that the daughters of the confederacy organization never owned the statue and thus could not transfer ownership to the sons of the confederacy to negotiate the multi-million dollar deal with UNC to remove the confederate statue

Sad to see virtue-siganaling liberal fascists once AGAIN harming the ones they claim to serve.

And all in the name of destroying free speech and access to precious/irreplaceable public art.

:hm
