The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV reported that al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri urged leaders of the Iraqi al-Qaida branch and the Nusra Front in Syria to end their disagreements and "stop any verbal or actual attacks against one another."

Al-Zawahri's call could also reflect a bid to carve out a more significant role for al-Qaida in the Syria civil war. Jabhat al-Nusra, or the Nusra Front, is the most powerful rebel force fighting to topple President Bashar Assad.

In April, al-Qaida in Iraq said it had joined forces with the Nusra Front, forming a new alliance called the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

In Sunday's letter, al-Zawahri chastises the head of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, saying he announced the merger without consulting al-Qaida's leadership. He also admonished al-Golani for publicly distancing himself from the merger.

"The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant will be abolished," al-Zawahri said, adding that Nusra Front will remain an independent branch of al-Qaida. Al-Baghdadi and al-Golani are to stay on as leaders of their respective branches for another year, after which the al-Qaida leadership will decide whether they will keep their posts or be replaced

The merger had also caused friction among rebels on the battlefield who feared the announcement would further discourage Western powers discussing funneling weapons, training and aid toward rebel groups and army defectors.....snip~

Al-Qaida leader scraps Syria, Iraq branch merger

It appears AQ will be making a decision as to who their Leaders will be In Iraq and Syria next year. Which AQ must be thinking that the Syrian Conflict will be still going on. While AQ continues on in Iraq. Do you think AQ is misjudging the Syrian Civil War despite the US now willing to give arms to the Rebels?

Also AQ has upped their game in Yemen, which now has been going on just about as long as Syria Has.

Plus they are spreading and feel emboldened with all these Sunni Clerics calling for Jihad and the Destruction of the Shia. While Politically the Saudi, Qataris, and other Sunni led countries continue to involve their countries into conflict.

The leader of al-Qaida's Iraq arm defiantly rejected an order from the terror network's central command to stop claiming control over the organization's Syria affiliate, according to a message purportedly from him that was posted online Saturday.

The latest statement by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who heads the Islamic State of Iraq, reveals a growing rift within al-Qaida's global network. It also highlights the Iraqi wing's determination to link its own fight against the Shiite-led government in Baghdad with the cause of rebels trying to topple the Iran-backed Syrian regime.

His statement surfaced as rockets rained down on a Baghdad camp housing Iranian exiles, killing three people in the latest sign of growing unrest inside Iraq. The attack drew sharp condemnations from Washington and the United Nations.

"The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant will continue," al-Baghdadi said. "We will not compromise and we will not give up."
Al-Baghdadi is now defying that command. In his statement, he referred to "the letter attributed to Sheik al-Zawahiri," suggesting he was calling into question the authenticity of the letter. "I chose the command of God over the command that runs against it in the letter," al-Baghdadi said.

Charles Lister, an analyst at IHS Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center, said there are indications that Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant are operating as distinct groups inside of Syria.

Violence has spiked sharply in Iraq in recent months, with the death toll rising to levels not seen since 2008.
Iraq risks growing more deeply involved in the Syrian civil war raging across its western border. Iraqi border posts along the Syrian frontier have come under attack by rebels, and Syrian truck drivers and soldiers have been killed inside Iraq. Iraqi fighters are moving across the border, with Sunni extremists cooperating with the rebels and Shiite militants fighting alongside government forces.

Also on Saturday, an Iranian exile group living in a camp near Baghdad airport reported multiple casualties when the compound, known as Camp Liberty, came under attack from rockets.

The group, the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, is the militant wing of a Paris-based Iranian opposition group that opposes Iran's clerical regime and has carried out assassinations and bombings in Iran. It fought alongside Saddam Hussein's forces in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, and several thousand of its members were given sanctuary in Iraq. It renounced violence in 2001, and was removed from the U.S. terrorism list last year.

Iraq's government wants the MEK out of the country, and the United Nations is working to relocate residents abroad. Several residents moved to Albania last month

In another attack, Sunni cleric Khalil al-Fahdawi was killed when a bomb stuck to his car exploded late the previous night near Ramadi, police said Saturday. The cleric has been a supporter of Sunni anti-government protests that have been raging for months and exacerbating sectarian tensions.....snip~

Al-Qaida's Iraq head defies boss over Syria fight

Here we have word how AQ is crossing over into Syria via Iraq, let alone the dispute with AQ leaders. Iraq is getting worse.....and the Shia have retaliated by Killing a Sunni Cleric.

Just like we had word of Hezbollah fighting for Assad. So to AQ in Syria and killing Syrian Shi'tes inside Iraq. As well as Going after the MEK.

Moreover none said to much about the FSA Rebels killing Iraqi border guards. One of those points that the Western media didn't want to harp on. I don't think they can get around the Death toll equaling what it was back in 2008. Nor what is going on in Yemen with that AQ Branch.

I'm sure glad Al Quaida is decamated and no problem to us!

The more it goes on it seems we need to leave Syria alone.
Assad is a badd man,
HOWEVER The Muslim Brotherhood & Al Queda aren't any better.

Imo US needs to leave it alone, pickup whatever pieces are left.

There is one thing here that a lot of people really do not realize, and they should. The leaders of the other side get just as sick and tired of warfare as we do. And if after over a decade nothing has seriously changed, odds are it will not. And also many are starting to realize that they are actually minimalizing themselves in any future role in the government because of their intransigence and fighting now.

But you have the hardliners wanting to buck their nominal leader, and this can spell trouble. Look at what happened to the PLO when Yasser Arafat started to ease off of his constant warfare against Israel. Civil War broke out in the organization, and it largely tore itself apart as the moderates and hardliners went at each other tooth and nail (and allowed the rise of Hezbolla and Hamas, and the marginalization of what is left of the PLO, Fatah).

However, with the Taliban wanting to talk, Iran electing a more moderate leader and this, I can only hope that the last 20 years of bloody fighting in the region are finally winding down.

Heya Penn.....I think so to. But myself.....I think we should Bust out the Fact World-Wide that AQ and the MB are mixed with each other. That while AQ is the Direct threat in the Short term. The MB is the real threat and has always been. Plus it lets the Sunni know we are Actually seeing the big picture no matter how much the Sunni lie and attempt to deceive the West.

Heya OF.....I thought about the PLO. But now that AQ has morphed into the Hydra. I think we will see future opposition between their Leaders. As some will be Experienced proven fighters who also have an Education. But I doubt their inside rivalries will affect them and their push for their Ideal Dream.

Several thoughts:

1. With Al Qaeda having been weakened and remaining under pressure, rifts have opened up in what was always a somewhat loosely-organized movement.
2. Zawahri is trying to close those rifts, as he likely understands that a united front offers greater strength while divisions can be exploited by those combating Al Qaeda (something that regional Al Qaeda leaders might not understand as it would undercut their own influence)
3. Zawahri is also trying to maintain relevance and a sense of authority for the central command, even as formal authority has eroded.
4. Al Qaeda's choosing new leaders in Iraq and Syria reflect the terrorist group's commitment to continue to seek influence there. Even if a full-fledged insurgency does not reignite in Iraq and if the Syrian civil war ends, Al Qaeda will likely seek opportunities there.
5. Al Qaeda is hoping to exploit the emotions of Syria's repressed population to build an indigenous foundation there (much as Hezbollah has been able to do so in Lebanon). If that happens, that will amount to a significant setback for the West and Western interests, as the terrorist organization would gain greater staying power. This is what makes the arms transfers--even if they are well-intentioned--so risky. There's little question that some share of arms will flow to Al Qaeda elements (no practical ways to control against that outcome exist as smuggling will occur as local parties put their narrower and more immediate interests ahead of the interests of their benefactors). If Al Qaeda is able to use those arms to help the anti-Assad movement make progress, Al Qaeda's battlefield contribution will give it leverage in a post-conflict Syria. Zawahri understands this and one should not be surprised that he's trying to play a role in shaping the overall situation there.

The challenge for the Western countries and others involved in fighting various terrorist movements is to exploit the current weakness of Al Qaeda to further undermine the terrorist organization. This means trying to intensify internal rifts, trying to sow distrust among Al Qaeda's central and regional leaders, attempting to isolate components of the Al Qaeda movement, and leaving some avenue open for the rehabilitation of those who abandon the movement (in effect removing what would otherwise constitute a de facto exit barrier). Obviously, those who have engaged in violence should not be given immunity. But some degree of protection for the families of those who did not engage in violence in exchange for their cooperation and departure from the terrorist movement could be developed. Simultaneously, robust covert, law enforcement, intelligence, and, when necessary, military pressure, should continue to be applied against Al Qaeda wherever it operates. Terrorist movements can fizzle and die out over time from a combination of factors including exhaustion, lack of strategic gains, and diminished recruitment to the extent that attrition persistently exceeds recruitment. However, persistent pressure along with incentives to lead to their dissipation (e.g., the removal of exit barriers for some members who have not engaged in violence) can increase prospects of that outcome.

Frankly I have mixed feelings regarding Al Qaeda and the way it has been represented by the various media outlets in the recent years.

I feel that the constant need of the ordinary people in a clear "white vs. black" (good vs. bad) picture and the mass media's attempts to deliver on this need are playing a huge role in promoting even worse changes in the ME, such as the rise of politicized Sunnah Islamism.

Let's take the example of Syria.
We are constantly "being fed" the following narrative; On one hand, we have the good FSA guys that are fighting for democracy and freedom from oppression, and on the other hand we have the "bad guys" Jabhat al Nusra.
Hence, we've been told that we all need to support FSA so their "just" revolution would not fall into the hands of Al-Qaeda related elements.

Unfortunately, this is a very simplistic and very naive view of the forces on the ground, that ignores the huge groups of Sunnah Islamists that exist alongside FSA and are bound to get the weapons and the funds that the FSA would get. Simply because they are operating together with FSA and are better organized than the amorphous FSA.

a. My personal short analysis of the involved parties
b. The structure and organization of the Syrian opposition

While the West fights the false flag of these ultimate bad guys (Al-Qaeda), this "fight" provides a good cover for the Sunnah Islamist parties to grow and spread their influence over Syria and the ME.
This all doesn't mean that Al-Qaeda are the good guys, it simply means that the poor understanding of the ME by Western policy makers is being used by various parties to promote their own ideology (Salafi/Wahhabi - Qatar, Saudi Arabia) over the ideology of their rivals in the region (Shia -Iran) - this trend would have grief consequences for the region and for the world.

Unfortunately, the Western World cannot comprehend a simple truth, that in the ME the enemy of your enemy is not your friend.

Cheers,
Fallen.

That is a good assessment FA......you can note by those that talk about the lesser of the 2 evils. While harping about Iran.

AQ has morphed.....within the Ansar Al Sharia groups that have sprung up alone, is the change in tactic to use the Social media sites to communicate with the people around them. Giving Aid and Charity, pointing out who is the Law in the region and what criminals they have taken down. Attempting to influence them from region to region. Telling the people who to vote for and why. All the while placing emphasis on a life of Sharia.

This is no longer the extreme Shia that is running around and telling the world this. It is the Sunni. Just as it is the Sunni Clerics that consistently call for Jihad. Again they are not Shia. This is suppose to be their moderates within the Sunni Slant. Yet we hear nothing of talk about moderation or any compromise. Nothing but the hand given reins of power, handed over to those that should never govern in the first place.

Although DS is Right.....we should be taking advantage of the rifts when they present themselves.

AQ has now picked out a New leader.....Al Zawahiri choose a New General. He also Release a tape telling Egypt's MB that Democracy is not the way. His # 2 will appear to be working out of Yemen. In which they are now considered to be the most dangerous out of all of AQ Operatives.

Also al Zawahiri has told the The MB Democracy is not the way and has failed.

The warnings also come as news has surfaced that al Qaeda's leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has appointed the head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Nasser al-Wahishi, as his overall general manager of the terror network, Seth Jones of the Rand Corporation said.

With al-Zawahiri, the man who succeeded Osama bin Laden, and al-Wahishi linked, the United States may be taking a cautious but necessary approach by closing the embassies, Jones said.....snip~

Al Qaeda leader tells Mursi supporters democracy not the way.....

Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri urged Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters to abandon democracy and seek to govern through the full implementation of Islamic law.

In a 15-minute recording posted on Islamist websites on Saturday, Zawahri also criticised Islamists who had formed political parties in Egypt and supported the Egyptian military in ousting former Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi.

"I give this piece of advice to whoever supported Mursi and I tell them first we have to admit that legitimacy doesn't lie in elections and democracy but it lies in Sharia," Zawahri said.

"Sharia is not electing Mursi president of a republic, a president of a secular and nationalistic state," he added.

"What has happened is the greatest evidence that taking democracy as a path to Islamic rule has failed," Zawahri said.....snip~

Well a day late and a dollar short. AQ and Al Zawahiri sends out a tape calling for strikes on the US. As well as inside our country. Now it seems Al-Z is trying to school us about them being a message before they were an organization. Once again they say to Arabs quit buying American and are saying the same as some others about the US Dollar. That they want to see it removed as the World Currency.

Al Qaeda calls for attacks inside United States.....

2013-09-13T055757Z_1_CBRE98C0GKS00_RTROPTP_2_BINLADEN-ZAWAHRI.JPG

Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri urged small-scale attacks inside the United States to "bleed America economically", adding he hoped eventually to see a more significant strike, according to the SITE monitoring service.

In an audio speech released online a day after the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 strikes, Zawahri said attacks "by one brother or a few of the brothers" would weaken the U.S. economy by triggering big spending on security, SITE reported.

"As we defeated it in the gang warfare in Somalia, Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan, so we should follow it with ...war on its own land. These disparate strikes can be done by one brother or a few of the brothers."

At the same time, Muslims should seize any opportunity to land "a large strike" on the United States, even if this took years of patience.

In his audio speech, Zawahri said Muslims should refuse to buy goods from America and its allies, as such spending only helped to fund U.S. military action in Muslim lands. He added that Muslims should abandon the U.S. dollar and replace it with the currency of nations that did not attack Muslims.

"What the American regime refuses to admit is that al Qaeda is a message before it was an organization," he said.

Zawahri, suspected by many security specialists to be living in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border area, added that the al Qaeda message simply was that if Muslims wanted to live in dignity and "be liberated", then they had to defend their dignity.....snip~

Al-Qaida militants kill 38 troops in Yemen attack.....

Taking advantage of heavy fog, al-Qaida militants disguised in military uniforms carried out three coordinated car bomb attacks on a security barracks and military posts in a southern Yemeni province Friday, killing at least 38 troops and wounding dozens others, military and security officials said.

The attacks were the largest since a U.S.-backed military offensive last year routed militants from significant swaths of territory they had seized during Yemen's 2011 political turmoil. The assaults also underscored the fragility of the Yemeni military and the failure of the current leadership to meet longtime demands to restructure the military.

Yemen's Supreme Security Committee, headed by the country's president, issued a statement listing 10 al-Qaida militants as top perpetrators of the attacks, and vowing to bring "criminal, coward and terrorist elements to justice."

Yemen, the Arab world's most impoverished country, has been struggling for years with al-Qaida's local branch, also known as the al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. The group has been waging a campaign of violence against Yemen's military, including assassinations of security officers and government officials in suicide attacks or drive-by shootings.

The militants targeted three military and Central Security encampments and posts, two in the town of al-Mayfaa, and the third in the al-Ain area several miles away. The area is close to the Balhaf liquefied gas export terminal on the Arabian Sea coast, a second military official said. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the press.....snip~

AQAP it appears is surging back. Major attack and they have not relented with all else that has been going on in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Libya. Worse now is they are making their way slowly but surely down to the Arabian Sea.

Also Al Zawahiri just a few days ago.....released word for their operatives to going smaller in scale with their attacks. Some of our so called experts thinks they may go after Americans more aggressively overseas.

For over 2 years we have been Droning these guys. To keep sending in the drones. Isnt working to get rid of them. Each time they keep coming back stronger. Now some of these good ole boyz have been tuning in on Western Television. As take Notice of the change in tactic.

Now not just car bombs and the use of bombs being planted somewhere. They have taken one from out of the pages of our bangers. Drive-by shootings. Multiple attacks. I knew it was going to be a matter of time. Especially with any Americans that crossed over to the Dark Side.

I could swear that President Obama ran on a reelection platform that Al Qaeda was decimated, that it was on the run.

Sounds to me that Obama might have issued a stand down order of Bush's secret war against Al Qaeda.

How do you view their new change in tactics?

How do you view their new change in tactics?

The first thing the Obama administration did was stop capturing high ranking members of Al Qaeda and the Taliban to gather intelligence.

You may remember that back in 2011 a CIA whistle blower was alarmed that the entire Obama campaign on it's war against Al Qaeda was relying on intelligence that was gathered during the Bush administration and the CIA said that the intelligence was drying up.

Why did Obama order the killing of Al Qaeda leaders instead of capturing them so intelligence could be gathered ? He had no place to hold them except GITMO and he wasn't going to keep filling up GITMO with more Al Qaeda.

Back in mid or late 2011 there was a leak posted on the web titled "Bush's Secret War Against Al Qaeda." Basically someone for some strange reason revealed the secret war that was being waged in Yemen and the Horne of Africa by U.S. military special operations and special forces.
It was a secret, there was no reason for me or anyone else outside the Special Operations Command to know about it.

It was suppose to be a five part article. Even Military.com started to publish the article. Those at the Coronado Amphibious Base in San Diego went berserk. Even I now know what to look for to tell if Navy SEAL's have been snooping around. After the second part was posted on the web, it was scrubbed from the internet. No one knows who was behind leaking the report but it happened when leaks were pouring out of the Obama White House after OBL was killed.

The second thing the Obama administration did, was to politicized the war against Al Qaeda.

Listing every time an UAV (droan) was used and how many were killed and who was killed. Why tell Al Qaeda ? Let them guess what happened. As we know now the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi was in retaliation of a UAV (droan) attack that killed one of Al Qaeda leaders that the Obama administration gloated about. You don't see them gloating about it today do you ?

The Obama White House revealing classified information for political gain to help Obama get reelected. Since the release of that information special forces has seen a significant increases of casualties.

And as we saw a couple weeks ago when the Washington Times reported that the CIA warned President Obama in early 2012 that Al Qaeda has expanded beyond Yemen, the Horn of Africa and northern Pakistan and can be found openly operating in almost every country in the Middle East and North Africa and are more dangerous than they were in 2008.

So behind closed doors in 2012 the CIA were asking why was Obama telling the American people that Al Qaeda was "on the run and was being decimated" when the complete opposite was happening ? Was Obama lying to get reelected ? Sure looks like it.

Good evening, APACHERAT. :2wave:

Since DC has turned into a self-serving group of people instead of serving the people who elected them, can we believe what they tell us? More and more, it looks like ! and people are beginning to understand that.

Buenas noches Senorita Polgara from Mexifornia aka the Left Coast. :2wave:

The Obama administration has been 4 years and 8 months of nothing but lies.
And those "informed" Democrats know it and the Republicans in Congress refuse to call Obama and those he surrounded himself with what they really are.

Mornin Apache. :2wave: Well as you can see we don't have to much up on AQ here.....But with them now going to the banger tactics. I expect we may see far more assaults up on Americans in that region. Let alone others.

Well truthfully did anyone expect that the Democrats, Liberals, and those Progressives.....would actually be able to handle things overseas adequately? That they would be up anything such as dealing with AQ.

All these Ansar al Sharia groups are all being tied to AQ.

Most haven't figured out that AQ has morphed into the Hydra. Our intel knew it would take place if they hit AQ leaders.

Its been over 2 years and all he has done is drop drones. The strategy isn't working as AQAP has grown stronger Notice they are slowly making their way towards the Arabian Sea,

Not to sidetrack things, but to me this is not as much about "Democrats and Liberals", as it is this bunch of Democrats and Liberals. In the last 40 years, the Left Side of US politics has become increasingly run by the Braindead Left, who will drag out the bodies of Presidents Past like JFK and FDR, but completely ignore they often repeated warnings of power through strength and not bowing down to others.

Plus just the general dishonesty of "The Left" has had me disgusted for years. The amazing amount of protests against military actions by the last 2 Republican administrations suddenly becoming totally silent under the last 2 Democrat ones has left me totally distrustful of the Peacenicks.

Heya OF.

I can identify.....look at what is taking place throughout the ME and Africa. AQ or those associated are involved in every conflict there is. With Yemen they wont solve anything but building up a body count with the use of drones. Somehow I cannot believe that we didn't have any people telling this Administration this from the get go. Troops on the ground are needed.

My thing is these Sunni led Arab Nations should be the ones putting the flesh into the game. They should be the ones going in and hunting out their own.

Where is any telling the Saud and whoever aligned with them, needs to get their Intel people out there and start going after AQ, and all these other groups.

"Al-Qaeda's Bigger Now Than It Ever Has Been".....

2013-06-10T101844Z_3_CBRE9590RUL00_RTROPTP_3_QAEDA-VIDEO.JPG

Despite the targeted US killing of al-Qaeda leaders, more and more terrorist groups are joining the al-Qaeda network and expanding membership - what led former Australian intelligence analyst Leah Farrell to say, "al-Qaeda's bigger now than it ever has been."

The Quilliam Foundation, a counter-extremism think tank, points out that something must be wrong:

Confirmed Al Qaeda attacks have increased fourfold since 11 September 2001 compared to the number before and, the attack on the twin towers aside, the number of deaths as a result of Al Qaeda terrorist attacks has also increased considerably.

Richard Barrett, former coordinator of the al-Qaeda and Taliban Monitoring Team at the UN, thinks the problem is that "all the efforts have been about destroying the structure without dealing with why people join" so far.....snip~

Former Intelligence Analyst: "Al-Qaeda's Bigger Now Than It Ever Has Been" - Nicole Bailey

Another counter terrorism group that is saying AQ is now Bigger than it has ever been before......here it talks about those all on the periphery. This in my Opinion is what the Intel services were talking about now AQ has completely Morphed, into the Hydra.

Which we just had another assessment with those in the African Continent joining AQ and or working together with each other. So it is happening in both the ME and Africa.

Lebanon militant pledges allegiance to al-Qaida.....

A Lebanon-based militant pledged allegiance to an al-Qaida-linked group Saturday, calling on Sunni Muslim soldiers to quit a Lebanese army he claimed is controlled by Christians and Shiites.

Abu Sayyaf al-Ansari made the pledge to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant in a recording posted online and broadcast on major television stations, including leading private channel LBC, which said it obtained it from online jihadi forums.

"We pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Husseini al-Qarashi al-Baghdadi and we will obey his orders," Abu Sayyaf said, referring to the Islamic State leader. "Take us wherever you want, take us to difficulties and make us the point of your lance so that we crush your enemy."

"I call upon Sunnis in the Army of the Cross to fear God and leave this tyrant," he said, referring to the religiously mixed Lebanese army. "Don't be a sword that Christians and Shiites carry to stab you.".....snip~

US forces launch missile strike against Shebab leader in Somalia.....

The US strike took place just a day after the Shebab, which are linked to Al-Qaeda, called for attacks against foreign forces after arch-enemy Ethiopia joined the African Union force battling the extremists.

Hardline Shebab insurgents control large parts of rural southern Somalia, and despite having been driven from a string of towns by the UN-backed mission known as AMISOM, guerrilla units stage regular deadly attacks in the capital Mogadishu.

The United States has sent a handful of military advisers to Somalia in recent months to help bolster an African Union force fighting extremist militants there.

The deployment marked the first stationing of US troops in the troubled country since 1993, when two Blackhawk helicopters were shot down and 18 Americans were killed in a disastrous operation.....snip~

There is still no word that we got him. Also we now know we have people back in Somalia.

Update: Slain Shabab member was in group's intel unit.

Masked al-Shabab fighters retrieved bits of flesh overnight from a burned-out car that had been hit by a U.S. missile and in which a member of the armed Islamic group's intelligence unit died, a commander in the group said Monday.

Sahal Iskudhuq was killed in Sunday's attack and was with al-Shabab's intelligence unit, helping choose targets for bombings and to plan attacks, a commander in the al-Qaida-linked group told The Associated Press. There was no immediate indication that Iskudhuq had been involved in planning the September attack on an upscale mall in Nairobi, Kenya.

Iskudhuq had previously been in charge of kidnappings of foreigners and ransom deals for the al-Qaida-linked insurgent group, said the al-Shabab commander, Abu Mohamed. Iskudhuq was also a trusted friend of the group's spiritual leader and top commander, Ahmed Abdi Godane.

Somali officials said they believe the missile was fired from a drone. The U.S. has carried out drone attacks in Somalia before, though not nearly as frequently as in Pakistan and a few other places. Al-Shabab would "retaliate with a bigger blow and pain against the enemy," Mohamed said.....snip~

I'm sure glad Al Quaida is decamated and no problem to us!
sarc

The more it goes on it seems we need to leave Syria alone.
Assad is a badd man,
HOWEVER The Muslim Brotherhood & Al Queda aren't any better.

Imo US needs to leave it alone, pickup whatever pieces are left.

I for one, vividly recall both China and Russia repeating last spring and summer that if the US and other western powers didn't stop giving aid and support to the rebels, that by that time were known to include elements of al Qaeda, al Nusra and MB, that this was going to spill over into the entire region. Some of us were arguing back then with the apologists that these elements had infiltrated the rebel fighters, but no they wouldn't hear of it. They were moderates, the product of a secular (I'm LMAO as I type) democratic uprising. Now, we just talk about it matter of fact. .
