Church Growth Soaring in China


In a country where once Christian Believers had to hide in underground churches, now China has an estimated 58 million Protestants and nine million Catholics, the second largest Christian population in Asia. The Chinese government has taken notice of China’s church growth as numbers of Christians continue to soar, and, according to The Economist, “Many experts, foreign and Chinese, now accept that there are probably more Christians than there are members of the 87-million strong Communist Party.”

Religions LOVE to inflate their numbers...and "Christians" are no exception. (and I put "Christian" in quote marks because the overwhelming majority of those who claim to be Christian, are not in fact Christian)

That said, there's about 244 million Buddhists in China.

This is my issue with socdems. Besides the fact that they are hardly discernable from American liberals in that they love capitalism and never critique it as a structure and that they don't give a **** about the global south. And they take at face value fallacious ideas about "human nature" as being static throughout humanity rather than something that is shaped by an individuals material reality

There is nothing wrong in itself with capitalism, as long as it is not done at the expense of the employees or done by unsavory enrichment among the top brass and austerity for the rest of the company.

Sure social democracy is not comparable to communism and I am thankful for that. And sorry, but social democrats try to better "human nature" by appealing to it and making sure that nobody gets left behind (by having a good social network to catch those who could fall through the cracks). And of course human nature is shaped through the times we live in, but you cannot forcibly reshape that, it has to be done through showing a better path and not through ideological theories that are straight jacketed onto an unresponsive humanity because they do not feel at home in that straight jacketed ideology that is communism.

Communism might have a sympathetic feel for some things but it is woefully out of touch with the reality of our world and the nature of people. And you cannot change that nature by force of by living in a communist nation (it has been tried and failed miserably).

What's more, you seem to be one of those that sees the word "socialism" and all you can think of is the USSR. You apparently haven't gotten the clue that there's many different types of socialism, and some types are very, very different from others. That said, America is already socialized to a significant extent, though not quite to the same extent as most other first-world democracies.

You're not going to rid America of socialism - it's already here, and it's been making the lives of Americans better ever since FDR first instituted Social Security about eighty years ago. If eighty years isn't enough for socialism to destroy a nation's economy - as y'all insist it must - then chances are REALLY good that the problems with our economy have nothing to do with socialism.

Of course, you could go look at the plethora of third-world democracies, most of whom have FAR less (and sometimes no) socialism in their economies...and yet they remain third-world economies.

So that begs the question why it is that in the past eighty years that America's had socialism as a very real part of its economy, that America's economy continued to grow and kick butt...but NONE of the nations that were not socialized to a great extent. Why is that?
