Come off the neoliberal-neoconservative ledge

Quoting:

Mount Everest's peak is the highest altitude above mean sea level at 29,029 feet [8,848 meters]. Mount Chimborazo's peak is the furthest point on Earth from Earth's center. ----

For the 'neoliberal-neoconservative ledge' imagine a cinder block wall (like that T**** guy's wall) that's been built in an expansive (progressive) natural landscape. The wall is at least exactly three times as high as Everest's peak: 87,087 ft. It's 16.494 miles long because it's square in shape when viewed from the neoliberal or the neoconservative side. That means that all of the ledges are vertical drop-offs, and the only way to get up there is ideologically.

I'm going to proclaim that 98.95% of commentary on DP is way up on the neoliberal-neoconservative ledge. Some people are sitting on it carefully; others are living more dangerously.

What the fork am I talking about? Let's just start with one thing, to keep it simple. It's estimated that the US government (USG) and the Russian government (RG) combined have 5400 available nuclear weapons. That obviously means that those weapons are ready for delivery and quite probably aimed. China is said to have 350 available nuclear weapons. Therefore the USG and RG average is 7.7 times China's distant third place. Surely the nuclear megatons are of similar proportion, unless someone has top secretly built an even stupider bomb.

That's the ledge that all of humanity is living on.

The rhyme is one of the best known in the English language. The common text from 1954 is:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Those weapons have been around forever. There are safeguards in place that won't allow one person to launch an atomic warhead. A small group would have to be equally nuts.

Those weapons have been around forever.

No, they haven't.

There are safeguards in place that won't allow one person to launch an atomic warhead.

That's very probably true for most governments with nuclear weapons.

A small group would have to be equally nuts.

I don't think so. If an ICBM (or what they think is an ICBM) is headed toward Russia or America, then it's very likely that nuclear war is switched ON. Having two massive nuclear arsenals is like having two massive 'kill switches.'

Antiwar... do you think it's fair to say that if there no Manhattan Project during World War II and that we didn't succeed in building the Atomic Bomb, that we would have been forced to bomb Japan into submission to a far greater degree than we did and then follow that up with a ground invasion that could have cost many more lives than the Atomic Bombs did?
