The chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer of Columbia University's medical school, Alade McKen, plagiarized extensively in his doctoral dissertation, lifting entire pages of material, without attribution, from sources that include Wikipedia, according to a complaint submitted to the university on Wednesday.
The allegations implicate approximately a fifth of McKen's 163-page dissertation, "'UBUNTU' I am because we are: A case study examining the experiences of an African-centered Rites of Passage program within a community-based organization," submitted to Iowa State University's School of Education in 2021. More than two of those pages are a near-verbatim facsimile of Wikipedia's entry on "Afrocentric education," which is not cited anywhere in the dissertation.
Not to excuse myself, but I was shocked at how careless I was when writing a paper (a few years ago) containing a lifted quote which I forget to properly attribute to the author. I received a low grade for that offering and was written up for plagiarism. That's hilarious and this article perfectly illustrates why degrees are worthless. There is lots anti plagiarism software that professors normally use to catch stuff like this. I'm guessing this person was graded on a very generous curve and they just let this slide too.
It happens but considering the bs position he received, I don't think they cared if actually deserved his PhD or not. Employers have access to anti plagiarism software too. They can check out an applicants published work to make sure they're qualified for the position. Not to excuse myself, but I was shocked at how careless I was when writing a paper (a few years ago) containing a lifted quote which I forget to properly attribute to the author. Writers who repeatedly fail to cite an author when using someone's writing are really careless and foolish.
Turnitin anti-plagiarism software does work and if you don't use it (or its equivalent) then you are inviting trouble.
And there are still futile attempts to defend DEI in those institutions desperate to retain such ridiculous and flawed concepts favoring skin color over meritocratic accomplishments.DEI is one of the biggest scams ever. Making up ridiculous positions all for the sake of making money they dont deserve.
That'd be a double loss, one where DEI promotes the unqualified to high positions they don't deserve to highly likely poor performance, and two, where the more qualified candidates are lost.More accusations of plagiarism this time Columbia's DEI Chief is under fire. He is accused of lifting 2 pages near-verbatim
Not only are some given an opportunity others are not, they abuse the gift to offset their lack of qualifications.
