Study: Cold kills 20 times more people than heat

The study — published in the British journal The Lancet — analyzed data on more than 74 million deaths in 13 countries between 1985 and 2012. Of those, 5.4 million deaths were related to cold, while 311,000 were related to heat.

Lancet went in the tank for lw advocacy a long time ago so it's definitely 'dog bites man' .

Is this supposed to be some idiotic argument that global warming wouldn't be so bad?

I know the alarmist will scream about all the potential deaths caused by the average temperature being 1 to 2 degrees C warmer,
but the study is correct, Cooling is far worse than warming.
For places like the US where NOAA keeps maximum and minimum temperatures, it is clear that the average warming,
is asymmetrical with most of the observed warming happening in Winter and evenings not getting as cool.

Here in florida, half of february was in the eighties and so far it's continuing into march. Between the heat and the humidity, florida in the summer is hell.

Yet people lived there even before Air Conditioning existed.

No, rather a good observation. That if the highly dubious forecasts that a 1 or 2 degree rise in temperatures actually occurs more people will benefit than not.

Not that it matters. Climate is not dependent on human activity.

LMAO.... That is not what the study was even about... good lord...

From the study...

Some limitations must be acknowledged. First, although this investigation includes populations with markedly diff erent characteristics and living in a wide range of climates, the fi ndings cannot be interpreted as globally representative. We did not include entire regions, such as Africa or the Middle East, and the assessment was mainly restricted to urban populations. Although our results suggest substantial intercountry variation in attributable risk for both heat and cold, the analysis did not characterise these diff erences to identify determinants of susceptibility or resilience to the eff ects of temperature. These limitations can be addressed in future research by extension of the dataset to populations living in other regions, and by collection of standardised measures of meta-variables for locationspecifi c characteristics to be included in the secondstage meta-regression. Results from these analyses would complement the evidence provided in this study

I don't think that even Al Gore has went around warning us that people were going to die from heat strokes due to global warming.

The OP is such a joke.

So do you agree or disagree that so far AGW has had a greater effect on minimum temperatures vs maximum temperatures?

These are facts that reasonable people already accept.

Think about how mant times over they years, we have argued this point and the AGW cult mentality denies it, because they are flooded with the warm causes death" montra over and over.

Indeed . Why is nobody celebrating the fact that obviously far fewer will die in a warmer greener more productive world as witnessed by current historic low death rates from weather and climate events ..... unless there is a whole other agenda at work here of course ? ;)

Summers in Florida are only 7-8 degrees warmer than they are here in Cleveland Ohio.

South Australia have more cold deaths than Sweden. That the problem with the cold is mainly drafty houses and lack of heating not extreme temperaturs.

While the extreme heat waves that is getting more common is much harder to cope with. Both becaus of the lack of air conditioned houses both in northern countries that previously havn"t needed it and in developing countries there many can't afford it. There many are also forced to be outside because of work and other reasons.

I'm sure this has some deep, dark, significance to you, but the rest of us ain't seeing it.

Wanna elaborate?

Well you say it isnt....but people that actually know what they're talking about say it is though.
I think Imma go with the people that actually know what they're talking about, no offense Friend I'm sure you mean well.

At some point we need to just start preparing for climate change instead of trying to prevent it.

Many people who don't believe humans are the cause of climate change, still believe that the climate changes, so i think that we could build enough of a consensus on the issue of needing to adapt to climate change if we give up on trying to prevent it. We are already way past Al Gore's point of no return. Once the real point of no return is passed, trying to prevent it is just a waste of time. Maybe we have already passed a point of no return, we will only know in hindsight. No one ever realizes the point of no return as it is happening.

If any of the things Greta and Al Gore warn us about end up coming true, we are going to wish we had spent more time preparing for it instead of arguing over whose fault it is.

Orlando see’s an annual average of 97 days with temperatures at 90 degrees or higher

In cleveland there were 37 days with a high temperature of at least 90 degrees that year. How Many 90° Days Have There Been So Far? It has not reached 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Cleveland so far in 2023.

It's already pushing ninety where I live in central florida.
