Cohen paid to have polls rigged to favor Trump

Seriously? You'd deign to participate in a discussion of this nature and need to ask me a question about such a basic aspect of the law and congress.
1 -- Click here for your answer.
2 -- Please do not respond to me further on this or any other legal matter. I don't engage here with people who lack portfolio on the discipline/topic being discussed.

Comprehension isn't your strong suit, is it.

You said... "high crimes and misdemeanors are whatever congress deems them to be".

Some of us actually ASSUME that all polls, online or not, are rigged in one way or another.

If a lawyer chooses to present facts to a jury that present his client in the best light, he is doing his job. If he fabricates evidence that falsely exonerates his client, he is committing a crime.

So in other words "whatever congress deems them to be" was a little bit of a stretch.

No....Congress, the House, can quite literally impeach a POTUS for whatever the hell they want to do so for.

What's stopping them, then? Congress isn't shut down and they hold the majority in the house.

What is the actual crime?

None.

It's just Michael Cohen (probably with a high-level Democrat working his strings) providing a teaser trailer for the Democrat-sponsored "Let's embarrass and bash Trump" circle jerk on Feb.7th. Plenty of political porn, paid for by taxpayer dollars, for the Democrats' rabid supporters.

Jesus H. Christ! Michael Cohen, on behalf of Donald Trump, paid John Gauger, owner of RedFinch Solutions, LLC and CIO of Liberty University, some $12K to work some sort of digital wizardry to cause pre-election polls to favor Trump.
-- Poll-Rigging for Trump and Creating @WomenForCohen: One IT Firm’s Work Order

Per the WSJ story:
  • Gauger showed up at Trump Tower to collect $50,000 for having helped Michael Cohen, then Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, try to rig online polls in his boss’s favor before the presidential campaign.
  • The Trump Organization declined to comment.
  • When Cohen asked Trump Organization executives for a $130,000 reimbursement for a hush payment he made to Stormy Daniels, he also scrawled a handwritten note asking for $50,000 he said he spent on “tech services” to aid Trump’s campaign. (Court document assertion)
  • Trump's authorization of the reimbursement was made on the sole basis of a handwritten note from Mr. Cohen and paid largely out of Trump’s personal account.
The story of the unethical and/or illegal machinations Trump and his people undertook to bamboozle Americans into voting for Trump just gets more reprobate by the day. Moreover, Trumpkins' abject idiocy and naivete does so too. How the hell did the US "grow" multiple generations of such utter fools that a profligately dissembling degenerate like Trump could get nominated for POTUS, to say nothing of actually win the election?

So.....
Trump paid someone to rig non-scientific, inconsequential online polls.

Why should anyone care?

So now the claim is that Trump was on trial in 2014 and 2015 when these things happened? Was Mueller investigating him then? Was he tied at the hip to Putin? Had he already rigged the 2016 election?

You guys have lost your damned minds over this guy.

In the WSJ article it stated despite the reported efforts of Cohen in 2014 and 2015, Trump did not do well in either poll. Trump did not make it into the top 100 candidates of top business leaders, and Trump ranked in fifth place, or 5 percent, of the Drudge Report poll of Republicans running in the primary. If you were supposedly paying big money to skew an online poll in a candidate's favor wouldn't you expect to see better results?

This story is useless twaddle to get the Democrat base their hardon for the Feb. 7th taxpayer dollar wasted chat.

You're missing the part that happened long before 2016. The conditions had to be right for a guy like Trump to ever be in a position to mount a credible campaign in the first place. Those conditions were not created because John Podesta got his emails hacked. It took years and years of people being misled, manipulated, lied to, and ignored.

People turn to a guy like Trump when they feel like they have nowhere else to turn.

that's not what happened. What happened is years and years of Fox news propaganda selling them complete BS and scumbag republican politicians playing that up to whip the ignorant into hysteria over all the lies, so no matter how scummy and hypocritical they are, they will blame the dems because that is what they have been brainwashed into thinking. The fact there are people that think Trump, a person who was born with a silver spoon, never worked a hard days work in his life, has no concept of living paycheck to paycheck, and who has a history of corruption, excessive wealth and other disgusting characteristics was going to work for them truly speaks to their stupidity and how good Fox news has been at propaganda.

Trump has done nothing for these people. Coal jobs not coming back, he gave billinoaires tax breaks, tariffs are hurting farmers and other industries, and now he has shut down the government causing even more harm

All he has done was give away more money to himself and the rich. how there are people that don't see that really points to how far brainwashed they are. It's so obvious, every bit of fact supports it.

The folks who "come to the table knowing" why one should/might care are the folks with whom I care to engage on this topic. My didactic days are done. I suggest you ask someone who's got the patience to "dick around" explaining it to you.

The point is that to conflate selective polling (unethical) with actual fraud (illegal) is a dangerous precedent to set for yourself. How do you do this without finally realizing you are on the wrong side of this argument?

We're talking about a freaking internet poll. There are no damages when an internet poll is rigged. Nobody gets hurt. We're talking about the internet here. It's a place where you can take a quiz to find out what your cat name is. If that kind of thing influences your life it isn't the internet's problem or the quiz creator's problem. It's YOUR problem! It's your problem because you take crap on the internet WAY too seriously.

You guys have lost your damned minds over this guy.

You're the one defending a man who paid someone to create scripts that create fake voters to manipulate online polls.

POLLS are a propaganda tool and always have been.
ALL SIDES pay to have POLLS say what they want them to say.
Nothing to see here. Politics as usual.

...and would anyone like to make book Hillary paid all those other POLLS that said she would win...by a landslide.
Yet 100% of them were wrong.
Further proof you pay the POLLS to say what you want them to say.
They are just another source of propaganda and no POLL should be taken seriously.

We're talking about a freaking internet poll. There are no damages when an internet poll is rigged.

So, why pay someone thousands of dollars to rig a poll that has no effect on anything?

So Trump paid people to rig polls. How do Trump supporters defend this? Can you imagine the outrage if Hillary had done this?

Well apparently he couldn't even do that right, because he was behind in all the polls the whole time, right up to the election.

He paid to have some create a script that pretends to be voters.

But it's obvious that you and others are just Trump apologists. It's sad.

??? Since when is $13K or $50K "big money," at all, really, but especially in the realm of political campaign spending?

Trust me, it's not. It's good money for a pollster, because it's more or less what they charge, but it's "chump change" in the scheme of campaign spending. If someone presents themselves to a federal office candidate, any of them, saying, "For $50K I can get you favorable results and here are my quals for having done so for other candidates or entities that have used my services to sway public opinion," a campaign/marketing manager wouldn't bat an eye to spend $50K to achieve that outcome. Indeed, they'd spend it monthly if it showed itself working as advertised.

And $50K is most certainly not "big money" to people having monthly/initiative budgets measured in the millions, tens of millions or more.

If you paid any attention to my posts you would realize how wrong you are. I don't really care much for Trump at all.
If you paid any attention to this post you would see I did not mention Trump at all.
If you paid any attention to actual facts, you would also know what I said about POLLS predicting a Hillary win were also true.
If you....

Never mind. I do not debate with a closed and biased mind.

Fortunately, I also get the privilege of never hearing another thing you say for the rest of my life.

It's not just an internet poll. It's the President of the United States knowingly spreading false information to the American people. Conservatives keep asking for 'proof' and calling it 'rumors and leftist nonsense.' When you get proof of it actually happening, you minimize it. Answer me this: If you know Donald Trump is a liar and you don't care, why do you believe him when he says what his policies are?

Kind of an extreme reaction to being proven wrong in a single thread.

First, you have nothing other than Cohen's testimony that Trump instructed him to do this. For all we know Cohen told Trump he was going to pay for some polling data and Trump said "OK".

Second, he wasn't the president when this happened. He wasn't even a declared candidate.

Third, if you really want to go after people who use misleading and/or manipulative practices on the internet to inflate their online presence you're going to need a MUCH bigger jail.

It's his money. Just because you and I think it's a stupid idea doesn't mean it's wrong for him to do it.
