Mysterious Mississippi murder stokes suspicions bred by an ugly past - CNN.com

Lawrence Reed, the key suspect, who is also black,is behind bars at the Coahoma County jail, awaiting a preliminary hearing early next month. The sheriff's department says it has the right man in custody.

Beyond that, Sheriff Charles Jones has said little, and the dearth of information stokes suspicion in every corner of this city soundly divided by race and class. Rumors about McMillian's death spread faster than the Mississippi's water swells in the Delta.

Here's the story of a black man killed in Mississippi, with a black man in custody.

CNN's angle? To create an story of how it might have been (hopefully) a white man who actually was the killer. Puts the Zimmerman trial in perfect context. Screw the facts, just find a white man and blame him.

Imagine the story in reverse, which would never be written, even though the possibility would be greatly higher.

CNN / MSNBC / Pretty much the entire mainstream media have been begging for more Zimmerman files. They finally got that old coot convicted of killing that poor neighbor kid he accused of burglarizing him - that guy deserved the life in prison he got. You don't hear much about the guy in NY that was acquitted of killing the teenager who was breaking into his car after the DA went after him for murder/manslaughter. That one was 09; no protest, no riots, no call for civil liberties investigations and federal charges - and I'm glad - the guy should go free and the kid / thief deserved what he got. Oh in that one - the shooter was black and the kid was white.
