Whoa! If we're to believe manufacturers, Trump's promises of returning jobs are not what our heavily tariff-taxed future will bring.

If the tariffs remain, manufactures are claiming they will not return manufacturing to the U.S., but rather they will shop-around for more favorable manufacturing countries.

In addition, any manufacturing capability they would bring back Stateside will be automated - not human labour.

And finally, manufacturers claim the tax breaks Trump is promising them are too small of a component (compared to other costs) to impact their decision in keeping manufacturing overseas.

So now, it appears we have two diametrically opposing narratives. The Administration line, and the manufacturers'.

This is stating the obvious. All who voted for Trump, all who are in his cabinet, all who ever associated with Trump, are being used for one purpose. The sick thrills and personal enrichment of Trump. Trump gets off on all the problems he creates for others which are all for his corrupt and sociopathic enjoyment. He loves to destroy and wreak havoc as he rides above it all and makes sure none of it touches him.
 
And who did this "study"? Just sounds like more left wing BS, hate Trump propaganda. Sure seems nations are lining up to deal on tariffs which is exactly wht Trump wants. We have to stop shipping jobs overseas and we have to make sure we are not continuously getting ripped off by friend and foe alike.

Not all supply chains are equal, some can shift at a greater speed than others.

The economics of going to a lower tariffed nation is one factor we should explore, but as that concept collides with the combination of source material scarcity (in the economics sense) and complexity, and/or precision needed, of the output product built.

A sheet of steel used to manufacture steel bike rims for example (image from the OP article) is wildly less complex than manufacturing custom sized and strength of magnets made from a combination of rare earth minerals that end up used in everything from F-35 fighters, precision-guided ballistic missiles, and even submarine submersive and navigation systems. Thousands and thousands of tons made of these things all impact why anyone would move manufacturing from one location to another.

But what this does tell us is we have even more evidence that there is no dramatic rush to move everything to the US anytime soon.

Some, yes.

Resulting in hundreds of thousands of new jobs, unlikely.

Trump skipped the step of discussing this with manufacturers what it would take for them to move manufacturing to the States. Personally, I don't think that's his goal. I think this is really all about him having a burr up his butt with the false notion that the US is being unfairly ripped off by the world. Trump has this very weird obsession with being a "loser" or even perceived as a " loser".
 
Well, duh. All Trump is accomplishing is ****ing up the world economy, excising America from it, and taxing Americans to justify cutting taxes on the richest.....

And then there's the whole fascism, deportations to torture prisons, building camps thing.

The question is: is Mr. Integrity capable of understand that what Trump is doing is severely damaging the US for at least a generation?

Or is he just doing the same thing he always does: sit at the phone/computer all day refreshing it so he can slavishly defend Trump's idiocy and evil in every thread about it with the most idiotic lies?

Yours is pretty much what I'm thinking.

In addition, I think there will be general "waiting" during Trump's term - rather than breaking new ground Stateside. No one knows what Trump will do with his on-again/off-again policies, and no one knows what will occur to those policies after the next Presidential election - as they're EO's rather than legislation.

I can possibly see increasing domestic production that doesn't require capital expense. For example adding another shift at an existing Stateside production facility. If they can get parts? If they can get workers? and if a crashing economy doesn't stifle demand? There is the last mentioned possibility, which would negate everything.
 

It sounds rational and factual and comes from experts on the subject. Unlike anonymous posts based on emotional loyalty to a despot who has broken his oath of office.

Democrats had a terrible President, then a terrible candidate and had horrible policies, suce as: Open borders, men in womens sports, soft on crime stances, they botched the Afghanistan withdrawal and never admitted it, they shut down the nation during covid and didn't follow their own guidance, they hamstrung our military by not hitting back at terror groups backed by Iran and attacked our troops over 200 times and barely responded. Democrats don't have an ounce of credibility left. All you've got, run that mouth with anti Trump, anti America, pro palestinian, pro Hamas, divisive BS, racism, hate, and shitty excuses.
Ignoring the democrats many mistakes and stupid policies isn't a plan, it's another looming disaster for your party.

Trump has decided that his "DEI" policies must be adopted in foreign countries as a starting point.

What reaction do you personally have to the idea
of a foreign country telling America what laws we should have here in the US as a precondition of a trade deal?

Trump’s yo-yo routines only create the chaos he thrives on. He does this shit on purpose. Everything he does is a stall tactic used to created uncertainty. He loves chaos as he uses it as cover for his criminal activity.

Nations like Brazil will likely be the chief beneficiaries of Trump tariffs.

This whole thing is badly conceived, poorly thought through, and terribly executed.

Unless, of course, the stated purpose isn’t the actual thing being attempted.

There are lots of bad things people could get up to given the volatility and shifting this is causing. Especially if those involved had inside information on which way the shift would take the markets. Make money on the way down, more on the way back up, rinse and repeat.

I want to see Jared’s economics profile for the last four months.

This is like the Who's Who of cheap Chinese importers. So of course they're going to keep trying to import because their business model, infrastructure and distribution is already set up to import. Frankly I don't care about the cheap trinket market, rather I care about mid level and high end products and where those products get manufactured.
