For years the leftist and Democrats have tried to blame 9/11 on the Republicans and Ken Starr and anyone else they can think of because they "distracted" Clinton after he committed perjury and obstruction of justice. I have just been in a long thread where the opponent was making the claim that Presidents shouldn't have to face the law, or at least it should be delayed until he is out of office (which could be 8 years) because of how it had distracted Clinton's ability to fight terrorism.

Now we had the left screaming to get the Lewinsky parts of the ABC film "The Path to 9/11) pulled and claiming that he wasn't distracted by it and it is a lie to say so.

So which is it?

Let’s be honest here. Clinton was distracted by blind Republican hate, that would have yelled “Wag the Dog” if Clinton used the War Power’s Act to commit 60,000 troops to Afghanistan to kill the Al Quacka that clearly declared WAR on US on February 23, 1998. I believe that is an irrefutable fact somewhere in the universe. The Republicans would have condemned poor Clinton for an “extrajudicial killing” in violation of international law should he have succeeded in killing innocent Sheikh Osama. I can hear them screaming now that after Afghanistan Operation Desert Fox was more “wagging the dog” by King Clinton. The rhetoric is ringing in my alternate universal ear: “there is no link, connection, tie, or anything remotely associating Saddam’s Iraq with the WAR ON TERROR!” “First it was the War on Terror, now he is changing it to the War on WMD?”

*****

“The Secretary-General strongly condemns Israel’s assassination of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, which resulted in the deaths of eight others. He is concerned that such an action would lead to further bloodshed and death and acts of revenge and retaliation. He reiterates that extrajudicial killings are against international law and calls on the Government of Israel to immediately end this practice. The only way to halt an escalation in the violence is for the parties to work towards a viable negotiating process aimed at a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement.”

Here, eat your Greens:

1997: “Those who desire to face up to the Zionists conspiracies, intransigence, and aggressiveness must proceed towards the advance centers of capabilities in the greater Arab homeland and to the centers of the knowledge, honesty and sincerity with whole heartiness if the aim was to implement a serious plan to save others from their dilemma or to rely on those capable centers; well-known for their positions regarding the enemy, to gain precise concessions from it with justified maneuvers even if such centers including Baghdad not in agreement with those concerned, over the objectives and aims of the required maneuvers." (On the 29th anniversary of Iraq’s national day (the 17th of July 1968 revolution). President Saddam Hussein made an important comprehensive and nation wide address) {bold emphasis added} http://southmovement.alphalink.com.au/countries/Iraq/speech.htm

February 17, 1998: “While speaking at the Pentagon on February 17, 1998, President Bill Clinton warned of the ‘reckless acts of outlaw nations and an unholy axis of terrorists, drug traffickers and organized international criminals.’ These ‘predators of the twenty-first century,’ he said ‘will be all the more lethal if we allow them to build arsenals of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and missiles to deliver them. We simply cannot allow that to happen. There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein's Iraq.’“ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Desert_Fox

February 23, 1998: One Iraq, Two Iraq, Three Iraq!

“Never before has our nation enjoyed, at once, so much prosperity and social progress with so little internal crisis and so few external threats.” (2000 State of the Union Address Thursday, January 27, 2000)

“War? We ain't got no war! We don't need no war! I don't have to show you any stinking war!” {Bill Clinton 1998, oops, sorry, only Congress can declare war! That must be why they clapped so loud there, and why my Senator wrote me that a cowardly pass the buck authorization for use of force was “sufficient” in Afghanistan after I claimed we needed a Declaration of WAR.}

Ahhhh, could you restate your position?
