Cleveland announces name change to Guardians
Cleveland is changing its name from the Indians to the Guardians after the 2021 season, announcing the new moniker in a tweet Friday.www.espn.com
As a longtime baseball fan, it will take some getting used to, but I’m glad they have decided to change the team name. I don’t know enough about Cleveland to know what particular meaning the name “Guardians” has to do with the city, other than the reference to the statue outside the stadium in the article.
Counting down to Antifa rioting while demanding the city of Cleveland tear down the Guardians statues for looking somewhat Native American.

Maybe he can dress up like Groot instead
Right move . . .
like you i wonder if Guardians means something to Cleveland cause it sucks if not lol
they shoulda went back to the Cleveland Blues
YES. omg much better than “Guardians”. I mean, cmon. It’s baseball with those silly pajama uniforms. The names should never be dramatic.
That still doesn't help me really . . been to Cleveland a bunch but not familiar with this/history. Maybe its a big deal to cleveanders? The name Guardians is a reference to well-known art deco statues located on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, which spans the Cuyahoga River and connects downtown Cleveland to the city’s trendy Ohio City neighborhood. Those statues are known as the “Guardians of Traffic.”

They should compromise and move the team to Mumbai so the old name works.inb4 TOO MANY SNOWFLAKES RUINING SPORTS THESE DAYS I TELL YA

The Cleveland EEries would have worked for me. A spooky name they could get lots of mileage out of, and the name of both the local tribe, and the Great Lake they abut.Interesting. Cleveland's baseball team has plenty of former names, but I guess the "Cleveland Naps" didn't work.
Wonder if they'll keep their drummer next year.
Then they could be in a REAL World Series! They should compromise and move the team to Mumbai so the old name works.
My guess it doesn't. The video makes the association between the new name and what it represents, but it's an abstract connection; you can say that about any group of people and their city. I'm not a fan of the new logo:
The new font is nice:

Only if the bus can make it through traffic and no one eats street vendor food. Then they could be in a REAL World Series!
There is no such thing as "Antifa rioting".Counting down to Antifa rioting while demanding the city of Cleveland tear down the Guardians statues for looking somewhat Native American.
