cities twinned with Russian cities .... do they now end their friendship?

myself i have been part of a delegation visiting our Russian twin city.

it was moving ....

THAT.S why i am interested in the topic

That is a disappointment. The purpose of them, imo, was to hold onto connection and shared values, especially in times of national disagreement.

it is a pity that this local friendships should end now
It shouldn't, but that it does speaks more to the politicians at the top, not the sister mayors of their own devices.

do you know of any US/ Russian sister cities?
Yes. My own hometown has 5 sister cities, one of them is Russian. It had not been disassociated.

we also have several sister cities

most important is the French one, but the Russian was always very special.

Our other sister cities were in Romania, Croatia, Canada and Japan. I never really thought of them as that different from us, other than maybe Japan as that culture was very foreign in my earlier years. Introduced first through origami and simple language ("Konnichiwa, arigato. Hello, thank you"), then later through an historical adversarial lens, and then as a post-war industrial success story. I think that's more than I ever knew about the others. Except maybe Russia. But I still only knew ("Blyat. Damn, politely translated").

twas difficult with Baden.Baden
their sister city is in the Crimea.
so in 2014 they suddenly had two Russian sister cities ...

It's not all bad. We probably talk to more Russians on a daily basis than at any time in our nation's history, and they even speak English and pretend to be Americans.

what do you mean?
just the usual Russiaphobia. It's amazing if one understands all the crap the west pulled even after the Cold War.
One could write a book about how we destroyed west/Russian relations....but i dont want to spam your thread with more

In this case, I'd say it's the presence of completely opposing values among the two peoples that have led to the "national disagreement," so it makes no sense to pretend there's a friendship going on. The denizens of the Russian Federation want to murder the West.
