As much as I admire Cindy Sheehan and believe she has a fairly good idea, the fact that she just met with President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela just made me do a complete 180 in my beliefs on her and made me think "wow lady you just dug your own grave".
The article is here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060129/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/venezuela_sheehan
Together she and Chavez bashed Bush and called him together, "the world's greatest terrorist". As much as I do not like Bush, this is seriously pushing it. I mean just about everyone knows Chavez is a psycho himself and would not mind dropping a nuke on the United States if he had a chance. He makes deals with all these unfriendly nation which makes him look like a villian himself.
Also Sheehan is planning to run for Senate against Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California. After reading the article I couldn't help but think "this woman has gone from rational to insane".
Knowing how California can be at times...too liberal...there is a chance that she may win with all the anti-war people in California. Hopefully she won't because seriously, we need smart and experienced people in the Senate not just people who only have one thing on their agenda: No war no war.
Of course I am more than open to comments so please put down your own comments towards this issue.
thanks

Cindy Sheehan is, and always has been, an idiot. She'll never beat Feinstein, not a chance in hell.

There are not enough Oprah/Dr. Phil/Pat Robertson followers in California, she would never get the votes. She should try running in one of the more country states, she might have a chance there.

Never say never..........There are a lot of nuts in the democratic party in California especially in the north......If they can elect fruitcakes like Boxer and Pelosi they can sure as hell elect Sheehan........She would fit right in........

Tell ya what. If we all pull out our brains and put them in a washing machine then maybe she could win. She's an idiot, and has been from day 1 in my opinion. And stunts like this just prove not only my point, but everyone elses that saw her for what she was from the begining. I'm just curious if this is going to make all her liberal friends and supporters crawl off and hide or are they willing to go off the cliff with her?

Christ..... I didn't think of it like that.

Imagin the loss of credibility your government gets with this election. Might as well stamp "Were a Joke" on the whole thing and move in with the "freedom fighters" in Iraq

Don't forget Repbublican Arnold Schwarzenegger. I would think the repbulicans in California had a hand in him being in office.

California is diverse, every city is completely differnet from the other. That is what makes California great. I have lived all over California all my life and would never live anywhere else. There is no state better then CA, the only place that could even try to compete would be New York.

With California's GSP being almost double every states it probably could be it's own country.

And yet there is still a possiblility this wackjob could actually get elected in CA

The problem here is we (CA) get crap choices in elections. California needs some good representation. The past few elections it has been more of a juggling act of who is the lesser idiot to vote for.

When Sheehan first appeared on the scene I supported her protest. The grieving mother is a symbol. If Bush had gone outside and talked to her we wouldn't even be discussing this. But his advisor's were sheltering him at that time and if it were now I think he would talk to her and eliminate the problem. Pride is often a double edged sword.

This country is not only based on the written law and written documents it is also based on the ideas of civil disobedience to authority and protest. Were it not we would have never achieved Independence. Think of acts like the Boston Tea Party for example. Anyone who is against these things would probably be more content in a more authoritarian system and they can leave the country when ever they wish.

However when I Begin to see that Sheehanwas actively using her position to get into politics I became disillusioned with her. It has become obvious that being a politician is all that she cares about at this time and perhaps this was the idea long ago in her protest. I have no use what so ever for politicians in general so I pay no attention to this woman she is becoming another hack looking out for her own interests and those appear to have less and less to do with the deaths of American soldiers everyday.

The whole Chavez thing asks for a separate posting.

They did talk, I believe they actually met twice but I am not positive. She started demanding another meeting when her liberal mental disorder kicked in and moveon.org started calling the shots. Not to mention the president of the US is not at her beck and call for meetings and discussions. Sorry he has a country to run. I see no reason to meet with a woman that is calling him a terrorist and the terroist who killed her son "Freedom Fighters".

And she was allowed that right fully. It cemented the fact that she was a fruitcake. She is now trying to rekindle her 15 minute flame. If you have a valid point and want to express it I am al for it. Standing up being a puppet and mouthing the liberal talking points is a different story. That wasn't civili disobedience, that was a public advertisment for the likes of moveon.org and Micheal Moore.

I think she's a talking head that like the spot light. And I think that will become more apparent

I think they met only once and that was in a group was my impression.

The president or anyone for that matter is not at anyones "beck and call" but when you see that you are dealing with a situation that is explosive then you must deal with it directly to eliminate any threat it may pose. My idea was that if he met with her a second time he would have defused the situation IMO. Instead it developed into something that could have been avoided. It would not have set any kind of precedent because the woman was overly tenacious and a wack job. That is not how the majority of protesters work. Most state their protest and go on their way. This woman was like a street fighting pit bull.

The problem is you say it doesn't set a precedent. When that is exactly what it would have done. He meets with this wack job and then evey disturbed or grieving person in the country is going to be camping out on his front door demanding there 15 minutes of fame and some face time with te president. She didn't deserve a meeting and her actions and words backed that up, least in my opinion

All in all it is speculation on both parts. I feel that it wouldn't have set any kind of precedent for the reasons I mentioned. Few if any will go the route she did. It is just not in the nature of people. There is also a fear factor of what happens to you if you bother prominany figures. This woman went beyond fear because of utter stupidity. Others will not. She is an exception to the nth degree IMO.

Yeah, I'll second that. We don't elect the president to meet with individual people who have grudges. We elect him to run a country. She can talk to her representative, but the president has more important things to do.

I could've sworn we agreed on something else...can't remember what it was though.

But yeah. Not all that common. ;) Although, any person who looks at this situation realistically realizes there was no way Bush could have, or should have, met with her a second time. If he had, I might have camped out in front of his ranch to push my Vegan America agenda.

In June 2004, Sheehan and 16 other families of soldiers killed in Iraq met with Bush in Fort Lewis, WA. Sheehan was quoted by The Vacaville Reporter as saying, "'I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith," and, "For the first time in 11 weeks, they felt whole again."

Mediamatters has a pretty good write-up on the kerfuffle that followed the Drudge Reports reporting of some of Sheehan's remarks allegedly out of context.

....and her treachery is almost complete. Only thing left now is an audience with Bin Ladden or a protest outside of Saddam's trial. She continues on her path to the dark side. Her son would be proud.

Feinstein doesn't have a "district." She's a US Senator representing the entire state of California. And the state of California as a whole would never elect someone like Cindy Sheehan.
