Piss off! I'm a decorated combat veteran of a middle east conflict. Furthermore I am a resident of San bernardino county where some of the dining establishment I frequent have makeshift memorials honoring their health department inspector murdered in the name of Islam. That is a tough thing for an American to look at, even more so to this veteran.

In a single night, several hundred precisely placed bombs and cruise missiles could long ago have left the inhabitants of Raqqa--many of whom are sympathetic to these bastards and are letting them shelter among them--without any of the facilities and services modern life in a city depends on. And no weapons ISIS has would pose anything more than a negligible threat to B-2's flying at 40,000 feet on a moonless night. The sudden, thorough humiliation of having its center of power isolated in miserable conditions--left without electricity, working sewers, gas service, or running water, with road junctions and bridges destroyed and very little fuel for vehicles in any case, would be a terrific blow to the prestige ISIS depends on so heavily. Overnight, it would be exposed as a weak sister, unable to protect even its own capital. It needs to be put in perspective though.
The real damage being done is psychological. 40 or 50 dead is HORRIFIC, it's unforgivable, it's outrageous and it's a tragedy for the loved ones of the innocents.
But chalk it up and compare it to street gang violence, and it ranks about "medium".
What I am saying is, in terms of sheer numbers, the best ISIS can hope for is a really bad week when the Crips and Bloods used to crank it up in the 80's in L.A.
In the 80's we had gang shootouts in the very neighborhood I live in right now where the tally could hit twenty, thirty or even forty.
I was making a living shooting video of it for the local news damn near every night, in between car crashes and structure fires.

The real damage being done is the fact that it rankles the American mind that a group of illiterate dingleberries and their local sympathizers and wannabes can reach out and touch us all the way over here in Murrica. There is a lot of chatter about how this kind of killing and generally harassing populations might be hurting our claims to be superior and thus losing our war on Islam more than it is helping us combat terror, which in case you have not noticed is not going swimmingly. There was just a study out that the world is the most violent it has been in 30 years which cant be a good thing and for sure revolves around terror operations. I would like this government to show me some kind of evidence that this might work to help win the war on terror in spite of the fact that it has not worked to date.

Except for the claims of moral superiority drone attacks are terror operations, we might keep that somewhere in mind.
