The World Council of Churches, at the largest gathering of Christian churches in a decade, accused Washington of "raining down terror", and apologized to the world for "the violence, degradation and poverty our nation has sown", and for the abuses that are being committed in their name.

The Churches in the World Council of Churches include the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church, the United Methodist Church, several Baptist Churches, Orthodox Churches, and other Churches.
