Christian "Domestic Discipline"...???

So who's right?

:poke

C'mon... who's right?

I need a little ego-boost after the crappy day I just had. ;)

ok ..you got me.. I didn't do my research on this one. my opinion is uninformed and I took Rev at her word. I saw her post as a rare time when someone one upped you and that was worthy of credit and the credit system we have is thanks.

Not everyone can be right all the time, even me. However , I do not have time to research the subject further so I'll leave it to you two.

1069, Thats a very small movement that Christians in general don't approve of anyways. Just because the Nazi movement in America is about 10x bigger than the movement your talking about doesn't mean whites in general are NAZI's. There are environmentalist movements that are violent also, etc... They don't represent environmentalist in general. And btw, the NAZI movement isn't based off religion, it is based on superiority of a race. You can go to a church and see if anyone even knows of this group, ask around what "Domestic Discipline" is, because I didn't even know about this.

What is the point of brining out this stuff anyways? The church of Scientology has far more members than this group, and they are wackos to begin with.

Lets not forget about the wacko fenimist libs out there, I think they lower than the "dd" group. Are you trying to associate this "dd" group with the general christian movement?

Oh? Rev says it's no movement at all.
And then everybody else sort of agreed by default: "Gee, you shore is smart, Rev. I guess that'll end the discussion. Good job!"

Hmm; good question.
What's the point of not bringing it up?

Well, perhaps you should hunt them down and spank them.
That'll learn those uppity females a thang or two, won't it?

Are you trying to associate this "dd" group with the general christian movement?

Yep, you've sure got my number.
I guess the gig is up. I'm busted now. :doh
That's exactly what I'm trying to do.

(That's why I've said in virtually every post that I believe this to be a fringy minority of radical, whacko extremists. I always say that when I'm trying to implicate the general "Christian Movement").

Sorry I've no time to check the links 1069... Just wanted to interject that "Domestic Decipline" may solely in some, if not most, pertain to the children and based on the scripture/proverb "Spare the rod spoil the child."
It should also be understood that the natural order of family is to place the male as head of the house... This goes back to Genesis and is re-enforced in the new testament... Is it possible that you are reading to deeply in the word "submit" ?

Oh? Rev says it's no movement at all.

I think your getting me wrong. Its a movement that "attached" itself to the Christian religion, yet it really has nothing to do with the bible or anything of that nature. This "dd" movement is so small, looks like a joke movement to me.

Hmm; good question.
What's the point of not bringing it up?

To prevent people from wasting time reading non-issues. I don't also see a point to not bring this up when its not clear what exactly your trying to debate here other than to try and downplay Christianity.

Well, perhaps you should hunt them down and spank them.

No, perhaps I should try congress to pass legislation to deport feminist to other socialist nations. And I know that most likely won't happen anyways :(.

Yep, you've sure got my number.
I guess the gig is up. I'm busted now. :doh
That's exactly what I'm trying to do.

Thats right, why are you so disapproving of the morals of Christianity, yet approving of the corrupt morals of Islam?

(That's why I've said in virtually every post that I believe this to be a fringy minority of radical, whacko extremists. I always say that when I'm trying to implicate the general "Christian Movement").

Then what point are you trying to make pointing this group out? What are you trying to debate here?

OMG!!! YARF! :2sick1:

Shhhh: I've uncovered yet another dirty fundamentalist little secret.

In my research for the "Spanking: yes or no" thread, I visited a lot of fundamentalist and evangelical Christian sites, and found that while most advocated corporal punishment for children, there were also some veiled references to something called "DD", which, upon further investigation, revealed itself to be an acronym for wife beating, ie "Domestic Discipline".

Now, surely this is only a marginal, fringey element of fundamentalist extremists that actually participate in this practice, but still.... GROSS!
Why don't they just come out of the closet, admit they're sadomasochistic perverts, and be done with it?

What is Christian Domestic Discipline?

A Domestic Discipline marriage is one in which one partner in a
relationship has authority over the other, and with that authority the
means to enforce it, occasionally by spanking. It is sometimes called
"Loving Domestic Discipline" or a "Taken in Hand" relationship.

In Christian Domestic Discipline, the marriage is set up according to the
guidelines set forth in the Holy Bible, meaning the husband has
authority over his wife and thus the means to back up that authority. In
a true Christian Domestic Discipline marriage spanking is rare and
tempered with the knowledge that the husband must answer to God for
his actions and decisions in his position of authority.

We at Christian Domestic Discipline Publications believe there is nothing
more romantic than a relationship set up according to God's plan.

Now, I realize this is not status quo, even for devout Christians; in fact, many fundamentalist sites deplore the practice and speak out against it as actually being contrary to God's wishes: link

Gosh, you know... my propensity for hypocrisy perpetually surprises me.
As much as try to follow (and promote) a tolerant, "you-do-your-thing, I'll-do-mine" philosophy, I'm utterly repulsed by this.
Frankly, it gives me the heebie-jeebies. Especially the fact that even mainstream Christian sites are aware of this movement (and on familiar enough terms with it to refer to it, off-handedly, as 'DD').
And I had no idea.

Wow.
And see, I have no problem with S&M/B&D freaks, as long as everything is consensual.
More hypocrisy.

I guess my fear, with this Domestic Discipline thing, is that maybe everything isn't consensual. Maybe these women are somehow brainwashed into submitting to this by religion, or something.

Anyway. Your thoughts.

Christian S&M.....Kinky....

Sounds more like domestic perversion to me. Spank me, baby, oh make it hurt and then use the "big stick".....

I'm a sinner ;) make me suffer like Christ suffered

Wow... gosh. This one sorta sunk without a ripple, eh?
Well, kudos to dogger807 for having the guts and the COURTESY (hint, hint) to admit that he (or she, or whatever) was mistaken.

edit: * oops, never mind; it was Utah Bill who agreed with Rev, not the Cap'n. :doh

Why is it a shock that there are wackos in EVERY religion. It is certainly not mainstream Christians that believe this stuff. As I'm sure as been stated before interpretation, interpretation, interpretation.

I think that they just have an interest in bashing Christianity.

Hey, how'd I get involved in this? What's happening around here? WHo woke me up?

Wow, how sad.

So nice to know which religions can be trashed and which can't.

It is just amazing to see at what lengths pagans will go to discredit Christianity.

I have never in all the Christian conferences and study groups and sermons, ever heard of this spanking stuff. It absoltuely not biblical.

"This is utterly repulsive. I do not understand why any adult woman would submit to being treated like a child by her husband"

I think its repulsive as well.

In so far as a religion trashing another religion goes, I think today Christianity and Wicca are pretty much even.

Waaah! You're back already!!? Cool. :)

No, by "pagan", Doughie was referring to me, and I doubt she thinks I'm Wiccan.
I think she's just using the term "Pagan" in a generic sense, to mean "non-believer".
Perhaps she actually meant "Heathen". Or "Heretic".

Now that you mention it, though, I don't believe I've ever heard Wiccans "trashing" Christianity.

Well, look here: why does it seem that Christians in the UK are so much more reasonable and less fanatical than Christians in America?

"Domestic Discipline

I came across the euphemistic phrase, ‘Domestic Discipline’, on an American Christian forum. I was angry that a practice that should have died out with the dinosaurs is still entrenched in the philosophy of some extreme fundamentalist Christians.

"I believe strongly in spanking and even in spanking a wife when needed. I assure you it is only for discipline and there is no sexual side to it. I believe that there would be much less domestic violence and divorce in the man took the lead in the home and when the wife was out of line, giving a good spanking rather that a punch, kick or even having a big fight. I believe that a spanking should be hard enough to make her cry and if she is showing a rebellious spirit in regard to the spanking it ought to be hard enough to take that out of her. Even in regard to children the Bible says not to spare for their crying. I expect more from my wife than my children so I would discipline her accordingly. Although, after 13 years of marriage she probably only gets spanked about once every year and a half."

As you can imagine I choked when I read this quote from the forum! I can only wonder at the mentality of a man who can treat his wife in that fashion. ‘Because is it in the Bible’ is an excuse often used to defend the indefensible, Biblical verses are taken out of context and more often than not used to support a stance that was in all probability not the intention of the author!

It is sad to think that although many women living in the West have achieved equality, there are some who are still treated as chattels and expected to be submissive to their husbands! Marriage should be a partnership of equals, based on love and respect, and no way should the husband EVER subject his wife to the abuse and humiliation described in the quote!"

I think your average member would be surprised at the fairness of the DP mod team if they knew what went on behind closed doors.

I mean, DP even has a judicial proceeding for perma-banning…try and find something like that at Democraticunderground…..

For the record, what religious label would accurately describe you?
......Agnostic....Atheist....

Now that you mention it, though, I don't believe I've ever heard Wiccans "trashing" Christianity.

I was a Wiccan in High school and my Keep Class priestess.....Angel, of all names.....would come up with all sorts of things to trash Jesus. From nerve damage during the crucifixion causing Jesus to be delusional to conspiracy theories involving Jesus's followers removing his body from the tomb.

To her credit, though, she always let the Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses or whomever into her house to talk to her kids after they turned 10. I know of one instance where she dropped her 2nd oldest off at the local Lutheran church for Sunday school and service. There was no converting her but she wouldn't stop her kids from making their own choice.

The main thing I learned from her is that God is too big for one religion.

Unrelated digression.....it was one of her sisters who told me about my future wife...she used runes to do it, so I know first hand that divination works...to bad I adopted a religious faith that forbids divination....might be able to get an acuret weather forecast as a wiccan....

Atheist, although I believe that label has been distorted by the religious.
I am not militant.

Yes I agree, I've found them to be very cool.

(Sorry about picking on you so much the last few days, just for the record. I tease people too much, sometimes. You're pretty cool; I wasn't too happy to hear you might be banned).

Believe it or not there are those of us who will engage you in in-depth conversations to nail down exactly what sort of Atheist you are, though I admit that Gallenrox is a much more agreeable person to have that conversation with than myself.

The way I see it, an Atheist denies even the most abstract of God concepts, that means, to me, that if and when the Unifying Theory of Everything is answered to the strictest of scientific requirements, the Atheist will have to deny that answer or convert to a religion, because that answer would be a name of God as well as a description of how God operates.

I think it's important to distinguish between the "I don't buy into the notion that God is a personified, literal being with arms and legs walking around with super powers, but I could buy into pantheism" Atheist, the "I see no compelling evidence supporting the existence of God" Atheist, and the "there is no God" Atheist.

Yes I agree, I've found them to be very cool.

I stepped out of line and I'll make no excuses for it.

If a member has a grievance, perceived or actual, it should be dealt with in PM, not in public.

Because I ignored Stace's warning and reacted the way I did to Caption’s warning, and especialy for doing it in public, I was in the wrong.

I made a plea for leniency based on my past good behavior, took responsibility for what I did, apologized and took my medicine.
The mod team talked it over among themselves and agreed to leniency.

I'm not off the hook, I still have a consequence, and I think that's fair.

The Mod team didn’t disserve the treatment I gave them.
