Christian churches built all the first universities in America which still stand today. Christians also bore the lion's share of responsibility for educating grammar school kids for the first few hundred years in America.

Leftists mock Christianity and Christian education today but they are not wise for doing so.

Christianity - Forms of Christian education | Britannica

In North America, Christian education took a different course. From the beginning, the churches took over the creation of general educational institutions, and various denominations did pioneer work in the field of education. In the English colonies that later became the United States, the denominations founded theological colleges for the purpose of educating their ministers and established universities dealing with all major disciplines, including theology, often emphasizing a denominational slant. Harvard University was founded in 1636 and Yale University in 1701 as Congregational establishments, and the College of William and Mary was established in 1693 as an Anglican institution. They were followed during the 19th century by other Protestant universities (e.g., Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas) and colleges (e.g., Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois) and by Roman Catholic universities (e.g., the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana) and colleges (e.g., Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts). In addition, many private universities were based upon a Christian idea of education according to the wishes of their founders.

Sure. And pagan middle easterners started human civilization and the system of monetary currency in trade. Pagan Greeks started western civilization and philosophy. Our systems of writing and alphabet and institutions of political administration were founded by pagan Romans.

What of it? Different cultures with different religions and worshipping all sorts of different gods started different important systems and institutions which are now important parts of our culture today. Civilization grows and builds on itself, while always continuing to change and grow.

As that article makes clear, Christians established educational institutions, earlier in Europe and later in the New World, primarily for the purpose of educating religious ministers and more widely proselytising. It was only when those institutions moved away from the purely theological bent and developed more diverse and secular curricula that they became relevant as mainstream education.

It should be noted that in those early periods, the Christian churches maintained much of the financial and political power, so few others would have had the resources to create educational institutions without church support (and thus control). If anyone had sought to establish any kind of secular educations at that point in time, I have no doubt the churches would have used their power to push back against them.

I'm not sure what mocking you're referring to here. Nobody mocks the modern secular institutions which grew out of those earlier Christian institutions (at least not in this context) though some may well mock or challenge modern attempts to present faith and proselyting as actual education or efforts to limit or alter curricula or teaching on the basis of specific religious beliefs alone.

The only group of people it's okay to "mock" or be abusive to, are Christians. Why is that?

Quite ironically, you have crumpled your own position with this key word. It's the modern Christian education that is failing not the education of yesteryear. And not even the whole of it. Only those few institutions that try to teach outlandish ideas such as a 6k year old earth. Many of the major institutions teach evolution and the big bang theory, and never touch on the idiotic ideas such as sex demons giving cancer in dreams, as we have been seeing coming out of the woodwork lately. You poorly tried to paint the mockery of failed modern delusional schools as being applied to all schools of Christian base and origin.

BTW, can you explain what the article meant by Harvard and Yale being founded as "Congregational" establishments?

Not sure what you are talking about. Given all the mocking and abuse that Muslims and Jews get, Christians pretty much get off light. Scheme the Dead Terrorist, anyone? Even then, it's Evangelists that take the brunt of the mockery within Christianity.

Leftist aren’t mocking Christianity and Christian schools. Most leftists are Christians. Leftist just want to keep government and faith separate. Leftist are against right wing evangelicals trying to infuse their beliefs into government law

I've yet to hear anything against Dunham's use of Achmed being not okay in mocking Muslims. Plenty of comedians and TV shows mock and parody Muslims and Jews and get little to no flak for it. You also failed to address that it's certain types of Christians, such as the WBC wankers, who are mocked and abused and not the run of the mill average Christian.

Congregationalism is a form of Protestantism that came out of the Puritan movement. The Congregational Church was the official state religion of Connecticut until 1818.

Because they have been the bullies and abusers for a long time now. There’s a feeling they need to pull their horns in a little now and go sit back down.

“During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution.”
-James Madison

No, Christians get real mad about it all the time.

Written out like that I now realize I was misreading the word. Thank you for the reply and clarification.

He's trying to say that, Christians aside, it's socially acceptable to Christian bash, but not socially acceptable to bash other religions.

The problem is in try to make it sound all inclusive, as if all of Christianity was being bashed, instead of the reality of only certain aspects and groups within being regularly bashed.

There are those amongst us who think Christians did not influence early American society and yet the proof of Christian influence is overwhelming. I believe one reason modern protesters claim they hate America is because of that historic Christian influence. They hate God with a passion and want references to God removed from society, if that means tearing down, burning down, assaulting, and demanding in efforts to get their ungodly way.

Christians conducted most secondary education in America in the 19th and early 20th century, before atheists began to take control. Creation was taught in schools at the time of the Scopes Monkey Trial in 1925 but atheists later began making greater inroads into turning education away from God as time went on. Today Christian education is by far the best but atheistic philosophy is generally the dominant force governing most public schools of today.

Atheists think atheist education is superior to Christian education but their biased view is wrong.

Christians can be divided into two main groups in America: (1) those who think science is right and God is wrong and (2) those who think God is right and science which contradicts the Bible is wrong. These two groups usually can also be divided between those who honor God above the government and those who honor the government above God.

You can honor God and live by the laws of the world.

Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." And they were amazed at him.

Mark 12:17

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

No they do. Just like they believe that believers in Zeus laid the foundations of all western civilization. But that doesn’t mean that either of them should have first say in how society is run today.

It not modern protestors. It was the founders of this country.

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish (Muslim), appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.”

Anytime anyone has tried to put up God against science, science has won.
