Chris Matthews aka tweety bird (1 Viewer)

After watching tweety bird's suck up interview with Tom Delay, I thought I was going to barf. Then today, this story comes out. Delay gave Mathews the scoop on his retirement in exchange for a softball interview.

Not a big surprise - but you get to see how the game works.

Watch DeLay’s body language. In contrast to his smiling mug shot and high-fivin’ public demeanor, he is clearly a doomed and defeated man.

I typed up a rough transcript:

MATTHEWS: Thank you for calling me.

DELAY: Well…

MATTHEWS: It was a good thing for me.

DELAY: Was it?

MATTHEWS: Oh, of course it was. We got it on the air as fast as we could.

DELAY: Yeah, well…

(Cross talk.)

MATTHEWS: If Shannon had told me there was an embargo, I would have honored it, but I didn’t

DELAY: Well, she’s mad at me now because I told you. I didn’t tell you that.

(Indistinct female voice off-camera.)

MATTHEWS: I didn’t.. I didn’t get an embargo. But ah… You just said to me, if you’re on the morning news tomorrow morning, this is something you can use, which is fine. But she called me and said, “Don’t worry. He’s not calling to complain.” (Laughter.)

[Tape is edited. Continues…]

MATTHEWS: Have you seen this new, ah, new focus group stuff on the {Democratic] candidates?

DELAY: No, I haven’t.

MATTHEWS: (Indistinct.)

DELAY: Really?

MATTHEWS: I’ll send it to ya. It’s great… It’s great stuff.

DELAY: Really?

MATTHEWS: Hillary, John Kerry… all these guys. All Democrats. How they do…

VOICE off camera: Thirty seconds, everybody.

MATTHEWS: It’s [Republican pollster] Frank Luntz who did it. And ah…

DELAY: Ooh, I like Luntz…

MATTHEWS: Hillary did not do well.

DELAY: Really?

MATTHEWS: Kerry did well.

DELAY: You’re kidding?

MATTHEWS: I am not kidding. They didn’t like Edwards. They thought he was a rich lawyer pretending to care about poor people. Hillary was “know it all.”

DELAY: Nothing worse than a woman know it all.

[Tape is edited. Continues…]

MATTHEWS: Thanks. I owe you one. I owe you two!

DELAY: No, you don’t.

MATTHEWS: Today and last night. No, I do.

DELAY: I appreciate it…

hipster, after watching that interview, my husband was so angry, he said he was no longer going to watch Chris Matthews and was planning on e-mailing him. The interview was a joke.

Did you see the Chris Matthews show on Sunday? Laura Ingraham got upset and called the entire panel of guests "elitists" and when Chris is doing the "Tell me something I don't know" thing, he tells Laura he listens to her radio show every day. What a kissa$$.

Howard Dean was interviewed on yesterday's show. I just watched it this morning. I thought he did a great job in answering the questions that Chris asked. DeLay and the republicans are going to keep asserting that if the democrats regain the power in Congress that they'll automatically impeach the president. This is a total scare tactic.

I take it no one here ever read "Hardball" by Chris Matthews, eh? If you did, you would realize how dumb all this paranoid hysteria you are trying to stir up is. He is a liberal who has preached against the war since the beginning, he worked for retreatist left-wingers like Jimmy Carter and Tip O'Neil in office, before being trusted to disseminate legitimate news, he is a big DNC donor.

You have some kind of footage of him being a political insider rubbing elbows with conservatives as well as Democrats? And? This must mean he is a conservative?

Whatever you have to tell yourself.

Of course you did. Those of us who actually DO know the voters were laughing. Howard Dean is the Republican secret weapon.

As for the scare tactic tactic...sure, if Democrats weren't interested in impeaching him, it probably would be a scare tactic.

aquapub, I am aware of Chris's past jobs. I thought he was a dem as well, but that may have been what he was in the past. He fully supports this war, so I am not sure if you really know what you're talking about.

My husband and I had suspicions that he was now a conservative based on the things he would say on his show. About 2 months ago, he is announcing his brother's running for some office in Pennsylvania as a republican. We laughed and thought that such might be evidence that he was in fact a conservative now. Based on the way he carries himself on the show, I don't think he's a democrat and certainly not a liberal.

Now Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrahams--those are 2 definite democrats and Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough are definite republicans.

Just watch Hardball today, and you will see how ridiculous this thread is. First it was all about the assumptions that the admin. has mislead the country, then goes to a interview with John Kerry, then about religion and politics, and finishes up with Rosie O'Donnell.

Yeah boy, he is one conservative mother.

LMAO! Now that's a show I can watch! Seriously, Deegan, my husband is extremely liberal and he told me he was sick and tired of Chris cow-towing to the cons and would no longer would watch him (but I think this show tonight--he will watch).

sometimes tweety bird is on the verge of being an actual journalist, then he does this suck up bs with Delay.

It's not black and white, I agree.

Chris redeemed himself last night.

Good. Matthews is still pushing the GOP strategy that the Dems will try to impeach Bush if they get power. Although I would love it personally, it's never going to have 2/3 majority even if the Dems get control of both houses. It's the strawman du jour from the GOP.

I read this lovely quote by Matthews the other day "Al Gore will lick the toilet to become president"

I wonder if Keith Olbermann would ever name Matthews "Worst Person In The World" ?
