China knows they are between a rock and a hard place.China signals opening for trade talks with US
State media message suggests softening of Beijing’s position, say analystswww.ft.com
Chinese state media has said there would be “no harm” in holding trade talks with the Trump administration, indicating a softening of Beijing’s position as both sides look for a way out of their crushing tariff war.
The gesture comes as Trump has indicated he hopes to negotiate over trade and as the fallout has begun to show in China’s economic data, with factory activity in April dropping the most since 2023 as export orders dried up.
Yuyuan Tantian, an account affiliated with state broadcaster CCTV, said in a social media post on China’s Weibo platform on Thursday that Beijing did not need to talk to the US before Washington took substantive action.“But if the US wishes to engage with China, there’s no harm in it for China at this stage,” it said.
Analysts said the language represented a softening of Beijing’s position from last week when the commerce ministry indicated the US would need to drop its steep levies on China before negotiations could begin.
Andrew Polk, co-founder of Trivium China, an advisory group, said the post seemed “to be laying the groundwork to come to the table”.“By painting the US as the more eager, more anxious, more pressured party they are trying to portray themselves as coming from a place of strength,” he said. “This should play well with the domestic audience and give them cover to start negotiations.”
Do you really want to keep having a $300 billion trade deficit with China? That's $300 billion of our money supporting their military, buying their weapons to use against Taiwan - or us!China may just have to be the adult in the room and lead the world out of this clusterf*ck because Trump doesn’t care how much he hurts Americans.
I don’t care about the trade deficit. I care about my dollar going further.Do you really want to keep having a $300 billion trade deficit with China? That's $300 billion of our money supporting their military, buying their weapons to use against Taiwan - or us!
I brought this up several times over the past week. It doesn't seem to concern the progressives.Do you really want to keep having a $300 billion trade deficit with China? That's $300 billion of our money supporting their military, buying their weapons to use against Taiwan - or us!
On the backs of forced labor funding a military, that we may face some day. A country launching cyber attacks on a daily basis.I don’t care about the trade deficit. I care about my dollar going further.
Every day China announces another trade deal signed with somebody other than the United States, meanwhile Donald waits for a call. And our local MAGA here somehow think “hundreds protest in a nation of over 1.4 billion people” = China is hurting, oblivious to the fact that China exports to the US is some 2% of their GDP because they frankly don’t care about the US market since their own policy is to shift to service their own massive domestic market.China may just have to be the adult in the room and lead the world out of this clusterf*ck because Trump doesn’t care how much he hurts Americans.

15% of exports from China go to the US. Double the next closest.Every day China announces another trade deal signed with somebody other than the United States, meanwhile Donald waits for a call. Cool MAGA or whatever but what does that have to do with my post?15% of exports from China go to the US. Double the next closest.
You're not worth the effort if you can't see it.Cool MAGA or whatever but what does that have to do with my post?

Wait, why would anyone consider conversing with you to be worth the effort? You’re just reprinting talking points that the media gave you, with no investigation, interpretation nor critical thought. Frankly speaking it’s more efficient for us to simply go to the source since it’s not like you will offer us anything that Fox or AM Radio aren’t already saying far more eloquently than you ever could. You're not worth the effort if you can't see it.
Calling me MAGA confirms your simple binary thinking.

70% of all shoes in the US come from China.15% of exports from China go to the US. Double the next closest.
We're 37 trillion in national debt. 18 trillion in consumer debt. Nobody twisted our arms, rather we choose to build up that debt over decades by trading foreign goods and services for debt instruments like bonds and T-bills. Debt is a future obligation. Let not pretend that money doesn't buy political influence even for China. Use the Democratic party as an example.1) The money goes to Chinese companies, not the military.
2) Trade isn't a one way benefit, it's a two way benefit.
3) A trade deficit isn't lost money. We get goods in exchange, which are worth more than the money, that's why we buy them.
4) US consumers and companies choose to buy Chinese goods. The deficit reflects voluntary market behavior, not any sort of hostile act.

You buy a kid shoes anytime lately?
It’s like $50- 60 for a pair of decent sneakers (mid-brand like Adidas)
145% tariff on a pair of $60 sneakers makes a single pair of sneakers $87.
And kids outgrow sneakers fast, so it’s not like you can buy a pair and have them last…
And that’s just ONE item where the majority of the entire US supply chain is from China.
This tariff war is stupid and had ZERO thought process behind it.
Has NOTHING to do with a trade deficit. Zero. We're 37 trillion in national debt.
Well, we aren’t living in your parents world. We are living in 2025.My parents never bought any shoes that were made in china.
