China says it will ignore South China Sea lawsuit decision | Fox News

SINGAPORE – China said Saturday that it will ignore the decision of an international arbitration panel in the Philippines' lawsuit against Beijing's sweeping territorial claims in the South China Sea.
"To put it simply, the arbitration case actually has gone beyond the jurisdiction" of a U.N. arbitration panel, said Rear Adm. Guan Youfei, director of the foreign affairs office of China's National Defense Ministry.
The Philippines has filed a case in the United Nations under the U.N. Convention on Law of the Sea, questioning China's territorial claim in the South China Sea. An arbitration panel is expected to rule on the case soon. The Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled last year that it has jurisdiction over the case despite China's rejection.

Why do we bother with the UN? China proves the UN is worthless.

There is an internal battle going on in the leadership. The more liberal forces see the "nine dash line" as a headache that is going to cause long term problems, and they'd lIke to find a face saving way to disentangle themselves from it.

Hardline forces -mostly military - are interested in settling scores and challenging the USA.

The "civilian" AKA mercantile forces hope divide the world into "My markets and our markets", and intimidate the competition, or flat out use collusion to close access completely in the "nine dash line" by force.

China proves the UN is worthless...when it comes to China; just as it is worthless...when it come to the USA. Both are permanent members of the U. N. Security Council with veto power.

It is also worthless against France, The U. K., and Russia.

Otherwise for all the other nations, as long as the Security Council doesn't veto an action, it has some worth.

Well there is another surprise... China ignoring someone, some decision, or the UN overall.

I find it funny that the ones who keep claiming the UN is useless and should be ignored always cites the UN resolution as a case for war when we invaded Iraq.

The UN was worthless the day it was chartered. In the meantime it has become corrupt. I'd like to see us pull out of it.

We have neglected making the UN capable of robust enforcement, though we knew it was a matter of no less than survival. After Iraq we had the best chance ever of achieving it and Obama fumbled it.

Yes wrestling a country away from one minority with genocidal tendencies and putting it into the hands of the rival sect who have the same tendency is the best way to stabilize it. What could go wrong? Iraq was THE monumental blunder of this millennium and doomed to failure from the start.

Thank you for a very good demonstration. Thinking in a small box, might make the world seem so simple.

You Americans are very odd. Whe the UN has effective powers you complain of being governed by ZOG or some such. When you don't get your way with it it's not powerful enough.

What...

I hate the ****ing UN, I find this act by China as a nail in what should be coffin of that corrupt, inept, ineffective waste of resources.

OK, so how would you like this issue of international law to be resolved and what power should be used to enforce the ruling?

International law? Law is only as effective as the willingness of the governed abide by said law. That abiding is adhered to due to the backing of force. There is no international law, it's merely handcuffs for the honest laid on by the dishonest.

That's the fallacy of "international law"
