Chinese importers have purchased 1.5 million to 2 million metric tons of American soy over the last 24 hours, the U.S. Soybean Export Council said, citing industry sources. The shipments are expected to occur sometime during the first quarter, Jim Sutter, chief executive officer of the council, confirmed by phone and email. Most of the supplies will be shipped from terminals in the Pacific Northwest.

China is making its first sizable purchase of U.S. soy since the two countries began a series of tit-for-tat tariffs. Soybean futures had stayed relatively quiet in the last few days as traders awaited confirmation that big deals were happening. Donald Trump said in an Oval Office interview with Reuters Tuesday that he’d heard China is “buying tremendous amounts of soybeans” from American suppliers.
Seems China is opening with a large purchase of goods
Hopefully Trump will hold China to a deal on Thefts of technology, hacking, forced transfer of teck to Chinese companies in partner with.
60 % of US soybeans are purchased by China

Maybe they'll buy them, and maybe they won't. Either way, one to two million tons strikes me as an "optical" play, not a material improvement for soybean farmers.
-- China bought 93.5 million tonnes of soybeans in 2016/17, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. (Source)

Is the order "good news?" Of course, it is. Sales always are. Is it material or portending of something? That remains to be seen.

It's also something they typically buy from us. I would not make yoo much of it. It's a positive that they not completely boycotting us but it may be out of necessity on their end more than a goodwill gesture

Our Mid West ag economy is entirely too dependent upon volume in just a few crops. Diversification into multiple crops would be more labor intensive to the farmers but healthier to them in the long run.

Don't live in the midwest or know much about farming eh? Are you aware that that are limits on what crops can be produced based on climate, topography, soil characteristics and rainfall?

Did it ever occur to you that the crops being produced now are based on what works well for the region? And that to change a crop completely would requite a complete retooling of farm machinery that plants, fertilizes, and harvests?

Yeah I didn't think so.

Yes, I know it requires almost systemic changes, but we had systemic changes to get where we are now.

Oh, and **** the arrogance, I'm sick and tired of getting snotty, ****ty responses that assume so much. If you knew jack ****ing **** about me, you would know I live in rural Illinois.

Yeah, anybody that knows *anything* about farming knows that basically nothing grew in the midwest until we imported the soybean from East Asia. :2rofll:

I don't care how many soybeans they buy, the US needs to enter into a cold war with China and destroy the CCP from within. They are the biggest threat to world peace, global stability, and democracy out there notwithstanding their human rights atrocities. The US and the west should become hostile towards China.

I'll believe it when I see it. Farmers have already been hurt

America has been hurt by prior administrations and their weakness in dealing with the Communist Chinese thieves.

Meanwhile, back in the USA, the Democrat Party fully embraces the idiocies of socialism.

The Chinese are like the Iranians, except they are not so retarded as to scream “Death to America”.

Meanwhile, the media ignores the threat, keeping the American public largely ignorant.

Instead, the Goebbels Inspired Media Propagandists (GIMPs), are doing the work of the Chinese Communists in trying to weaken Trump. The Chinese LOVE our GIMPs, and the idiotic Democrat Party.

Not as much as it's being hurt by Bottom Boy Trump. I see you have a similar picture of Obama, so maybe Obama and Trump are just accurate reflections of the American male, or at least you and your friends who are supporting Trump?

Did you happen to notice that the Soybeans were sold for around $8.00/bushel as opposed to the around $10.50/bushel that they were selling for back in April?

Did you happen to notice that the average (over the past five years) cost of raising a bushel of Soybeans has been around $10.68?

Is it a "Good Thing" or a "Bad Thing" to sell more of your product at a loss?

Look at the bright side. Farmers will cut back on soybeans, so when the Chinese resume buying larger quantites, the prices will be higher, and due to the risk factor of China holding them hostage again, farmers will be reluctant to plant as much keeping a higher floor under pricing.

Anyone is business knows you don’t screw your suppliers.

China cannot fill their soybean requirements from other countries.

You really want to expose to all the depths of your ignorance.

Well done.

You succeeded admirably.
