China debt to the US

Near as I can tell, Taiwan owes that debt. That's where the government that borrowed the money went to.

Is Bejing's claim legitimate now? Chiang Kai-Shek was leader of the Republic of China 'till he died in 1975, and when he died he was still recognized as the head of the government of China by the US.

Sounds clear. The US should get the money from Chiang Kai-Shek. You don't get paid if your horse dies just prior to the finish line.
