Chicago Cop With 90 Misconduct Complaints Promoted To Commander
Chicago Cop With 90 Misconduct Complaints Promoted To Commander | WJCT NEWS
How does this happen? I can see even a truly good cop getting a small handful of complaints from dishonest people over their career. But 90?!? Are they really that short of candidates? Is he really a true representation of all cops? Do they just not care?

They are just people, and I've long said that.As someone who actually has family members and friends as Chicago Cops, they will be the first to tell you, there's a lot of Police Officers who shouldn't have the job. They come from the general population just like you and me, and they are no more super human or smarter than any of the people you work with each and every day. The myth that all cops are are good is just that ... a Myth. They are trained professionals and should act as such under any conditions. I'm sure no one here would ask for the Emergency Room Doctors Resume before working on you at a time of Emergency.
A police person with 90 complaints that gets promoted must be rather good at something.

And you're correct that we wouldn't question their presence in a time of crisis, but before/after in slack times when we have time to review their worthiness? You bet'cha we can, and should, question them then. Police, ER doctors, everyone.

Yeah, but what?
There's a fair amount of truth here, but a large problem is also the general nature of The Blue Code and its pervasiveness in the CPD infrastructure from the top down.As someone who actually has family members and friends as Chicago Cops, they will be the first to tell you, there's a lot of Police Officers who shouldn't have the job. One of the reasons I didn't go into civilian law enforcement after being military law enforcement was because of a habit "the powers that be" had with promoting cops that made the job harder for other cops (and the public at large) into administrative roles where they then set policy and sucked up to the political big wigs.

"that's the Chicago way..."

Sadly, this stuff has probably always been happening, we only get to see it now because of cell phone cameras and readily accessible social media.ER Doctors do, that's why their Insurance is so high.
But I never thought I'd ever see ... in my life time, a Man get Shot in the Back by a Cop, Multiple Times, while Running away and not get convicted of Murder. I mean when I was growing up watching Cowboys and Indians ... even The Cowboys has a Code of Honor of not being Coward-Back-Shooters. Actually, I never thought I'd see in my life time some many Unarmed Human Beings Murdered.
I can never see a situation where I'd empty my Gun into someone who is unarmed ... shoot'em in the leg, arm ... Ass ... but Empty a Magazine, re-load and Empty two more ... into someone who can't shoot back? What type of F'cking Coward would do something like that? Someone who doesn't see others as Human Beings ... that's who.
Chicago Cop With 90 Misconduct Complaints Promoted To Commander | WJCT NEWSThe promotion put Sanchez in charge of more than 300 officers in the police department’s Ogden District, which includes some of the city’s most violent areas.
There are some people who believe a good cop would never get a complaint filed against them. I am not one of those people. That's an absurd expectation. There are simply too many dishonest people out there for that. But, 90 seems excessive.I hang out, shoot, fish, drink beers, and play golf with a great group of guys, and there are 5 cops among us who are just as "regular Joe" as anyone else. Just very good people with decent attitudes towards the general public.
Everyone of them have had complaints filed on them.
The guy with the most complaints is black, and he patrols a bad area of Virginia Beach (Lake Edwards) where he has to deal with the street thugs who are fighting, stealing, vandalizing, B&E, and shooting 24/7/365. He isn't going anywhere because he loves his job, and is respected by the community and his supervisors alike. He's the same cop who has water balloon fights with the kids, and gets his car bombarded in the summer months.

Does he have 90 complaints filed against him? I can understand that even good cops are going to have complaints filed against him, but 90 is quite a bit. And Chicago Police aren't necessarily known fair and upstanding behavior on whole.
