Chemistry of Explosives

What's the point of the paper? It's needs a lot of work. No background, introduction, objective....and it ends by leaving things to the readers and moving on to discuss economics. Whatever.

So......2 parts Ammonium Nitrate + 1 part nitromethane = BOOM!!!

Fuel, oxidizer, ignition.

Neither of you guys read past equation (6). If you had done the exercise for the reader, you would gotten to equation (9), which includes a sensitizer:

Sixteen parts ammonium nitrate; six parts nitromethane; one part aluminum.

But the objective is not to memorize the first or even the second equation that you come to. I present a technique for doing this yourself - not just memorizing things you read on the internet.

Read this paper on balancing chemical equations. Then prove that you understood it by using the same technique to derive the equation for an ammonium nitrate/fuel oil, ANFO, reaction. The chemical formula for fuel oil – actually methylene, which fuel oil breaks down into – is CH2.

Report the ratio of the weight of fuel oil to ammonium nitrate in atomic mass units. If you are correct, you will receive a FREE set of wallet-sized cards – an $8.00 value!

I'm not going to go over making explosives on an internet forum for many reasons, both moral and ethical. If you want to learn about explosives, talk to your recruiter and get an MOS in EOD, or Combat Engineering.
