Hey @Checkerboard Strangler.

Can you give me some advice on a good, inexpensive video camera? Not big stuff like you’re used to working with, but something 4K maybe, with external audio options. Want a good, clear pic for recording videos and vlogging, online music lessons, etc.

Thanks in advance!

I'm getting up early tomorrow morning and I'll take this wherever you want it to go. :)
But long story short, first thing is to determine if you really NEED an actual camcorder.

Some might do just fine with a decent phone cam, it depends on a ton of factors:

price range
post prod workflow
intended end use & distro
user experience level
project complexity

and much much more.

Thanks much. My sister does Youtube crafting videos with minimal editing, I think she has 2000+ suscibers now. My brother in law her husband posts videos of equipment he is selling.

They would like one camera or phone that can do indoor and outdoor work. They do minimal editing. That may change later but for now it the case. They just know some very basic camera functions like on off zoom function they are not far beyond novice level. My sister just has the camera phone mounted in one place showing what she is doing. My brother in law takes the camera phone and films the equipment outside walking around it and getting into and around the equipment. Projects I guess would be considered simple. Anyhow they are looking for the right equipment that isnt too spendy has the right specs and is fairly intuitive and easy to use. They have been looking at Samsung and Iphones but arent sure. Also is there a simple editing software you can recommend thats geared toward the novice. Thanks for your consideration. Feel free to ask whatever questions you like and I will try to get an answer.

I am truly sorry I missed this last response, did you guys ever GET the camera you wanted?
I also wonder if @Superfly ever chose a camera.
@PirateMk1 for you I'd recommend a powered gimbal mount for a smart phone camera to be honest.
If you have a decent smartphone that has a good camera, like a Pixel from Google or the iPhone, a good powered gimbal stabilizer is all you need because you're not doing cinematography, you're just video shooting and you don't need fancy camera moves and special lenses.

Hey! We never bought one, based on your advice to use one of the DSLRs that we have. We haven’t done much with it so far, because at the time, we were both working full time and had no extra time, and now we are full-time RVing.

We are about to buy some land and start building, and that includes a music studio. Hopefully we can pick back up on it then, and if allowed, I’ll pick your brain some more.

Thank you, as always, for all your help. 🥰
