I'm sure the columbians are not happy campers with this turn of events.
Today, in Venezuela the people voted a referendum. Chavez won with 54,4% of the votes and now can be re-elected for life just like Fidel Castro!!
War with Colombia is now more possible than ever...

CARACAS, Venezuela – President Hugo Chavez won a referendum to eliminate term limits Sunday, paving the way for him to run again in 2012 and beyond to push through his vision of a socialist Venezuela.
"This victory saved the revolution," said Gonzalo Mosqueda, a 60-year-old shopkeeper, sipping rum from a plastic cup outside the palace. "Without it everything would be at risk — all the social programs, and everything he has done for the poor."
Venezuela's leftist allies in Latin America have followed the model. Ecuador pushed through a new constitution in September and Bolivia did so in January. Both loosened rules on presidential re-election. Nicaragua's ruling Sandinistas also plan to propose an amendment that would let Daniel Ortega run for another consecutive term.
Chavez warned his opponents — whom he calls "sore losers" — to respect the results.
"Any attempt to take us down the path of violence, by failing to recognize the results of the people's will, will be neutralized," he said.
I'll fix that for you. :2wave:
Chavez wins vote to scrap term limits in Venezuela
This is so telling how people soon forget the history of the world.
I love this one especially "Without it everything would be at risk — all the social programs, and everything he has done for the poor."
The social programs are what matters most and not individual freedom.
I honestly think he should be assassinated.
Then the douche bag in Bolivia may need some lead love to.
How quickly do Libertarians turn into Neo-Cons.
Not at all. Its perfectly Libertarian to hope someone who is a tyrant to his own people to get killed by his own people.
So wait. Is he a tyrant according to what you consider a tyrant? Good to know.
Amen......I'll fix that for you. :2wave:

The most entertaining aspect of the American Right's (and indeed the American "Left" as well), opposition to this referendum is that Chavez is a democratically elected leader, whereas the "elections" of George Bush are still regarded with raised eyebrows, particularly the former. Moreover, Chavez survived a recall attempt, whereas most analysts agree that Bush would not have been capable of doing so. But the "shining beacon of democracy" has no option to recall a president. It's particularly amusing that the abolition of term limits through a national referendum (which do not exist in the United States), is depicted as "anti-democratic," particularly when the issue in question would merely permit the Venezuelan citizenry to continue to elect a public official as many times as they desire.

Eh, who cares? The people get what they deserve. They want a dictator without term limits (yeah, no possibility of corruption there) then give 'em a dictator with no term limits. Just don't go giving them any of my money once they drive themselves into poverty.

And we all know how much the right loved Pinochet. Of course they also loved Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden...at one point.
This is not a defense of Chavez, it is however some context for those who argue for intervention into Venezuela based on moral appeal alone.
You assume to much. I'm not a fan of the American election process nor am I happy with any of our leadership.
Populist democracy is dangerous and the people are foolish.
I personally don't like to throw human lives around liberally and I don't generally call for their destruction.
Cases like this are different though. I'm sick and tired of dumb asses making the tyranny of the majority ok through "democracy".
The mass tyrants need to be reigned in.
