I'll add some thoughts once I finish watch this debate. Will say though, it only took Charlie one sentence on the vaccine debate for me to want to punch him.

Who is "Vaush" and does he think he's Cher or Madonna?

Bill Nye vs Ken Ham was better.

Bill Nye vs Ken Ham was better.

(Unfortunately) Millions follow Charlie Kirk and agree with his anti-vaxx views. No one cares about Ken Ham and conservatives have all but abandoned the creationism v. evolution debate as they have a new god: Trump.

Vaush is a political Youtuber who defines himself as a libertarian-socialist but pragmatic in his policy positions.

And apparently he likes man-buns too, as I just now discovered.
YAWN.

Why can't Charlie Kirk pick a mainstream person to debate?

Never heard of him. Confused him for Kirk Cameron at first. Surprised I stopped hearing about that Josh guy with the backwards hat and Starbucks cups. Thought he was going to run for office.

Never heard of him.

"Know your enemy" - Sun Tzu.

The guy runs Turning Points USA and is brainwashing young Americans to his brand of conservatism. He has power. Ken Ham has none.

You speak as if a 'mainstream person' would be a better debater.

I speak as if the mainstream doesn't give a rat's ass about a "Vaush" or libertarian socialists, or else we'd have a pack of them in elected office all over the country.
Now, that doesn't mean I am attacking libertarian socialism, it is what it is and it has its good points and bad points. I am however attempting to point out that it is still a niche, and that the Charlie Kirks of the world are desperate to avoid talking to mainstream people, because they can't use their favorite buzz words and well rehearsed tropes.
The Charlie Kirks of the world can't grasp real world experiences of mainstream people.

The Charlie Kirks of the world are like prize fighters who will only do a bout in the ring if they can punch below their weight or pick carefully groomed opponents who will take a fall for the money.

Never thought you were so shallow Checkerboard.

Disappointing.

How does a sarcastic quip make me shallow?
Sorry, I'm just not impressed by either of these people.
The man bun quip was just for laughs.
I never thought you were so humorless and dour.

But I am not disappointed in the least, as I still enjoy your posts.

Was Kirk the one who thought rising sea levels would never be a problem because people that close to the ocean would just sell their houses? Or was that a different right wing "intellectual?"

Much of the debate itself has nothing to do with libertarian socialism, per se. I was just giving you some background info.

Not really understanding this sentence. What do mainstream people have to do with not using favorite buzz words and tropes? Huh?

The Charlie Kirks of the world can't grasp real world experiences of mainstream people.

Still not making sense.

Perhaps you should actually watch the debate and tell me what 'mainstream' person would've done better.

Seems like something he would say. He's an anti-vaxxer after all.

Does sound like the sort of person who would convince themselves that a dolphin is capable of getting a mortgage.

That was Ben Shapiro. As made famous by HBomberguy's meme "Sell them to WHO, Ben? ****ING AQUAMAN?!?"

I joke about his man bun, too. But I don't make judgments on him as a debater over it.

I joke about his man bun, too. But I can joke about that and still post thoughts about a debate.

He has long hair. Anyone with long hair will tell you buns are convenient if you want to keep hair out of your face.

And I respect that.

Maybe I will be someday.
We have dozens of people right here who debate better.

I had hair down to my elbows in my twenties.

With hair that long, a bun might be too big to be useful. But then again, I knew ladies in the Army with hair down to their waists who could still get it into a bun, so *shrug*.

Specifics?

Btw, while I do like Vaush, I have been critical of his debate tactics in the past. He's gotten a lot better, though (less antagonistic and arrogant.)
