''The chaos in Syria that opened the door to the terror group Isil was created because the West did not intervene in the civil war, the head of MI6 has suggested.
Sir John Sawers also gave the strongest signal yet that the UK and US must find a way to work with Iran to combat the troubles in neighbouring Iraq and Syria.
In rare public comments, the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service said the way the West responds to civil war in other countries created “real dilemmas”.
The advance of Isil in Iraq and Syria, which exploited the vacuums created by the conflicts, has raised questions over the previous stance of Western powers not to intervene directly.
France yesterday became the first Western power to join the US in air strikes against the terror group in Iraq.

In my opinion, I don't think we should have intervened in the first place. We will now be asked to patch and paint for the next hundred years. Those countries should be left to work it out on their own. We should only defend our people and our country, not our "special interests."

Decades of failed policies have only left us with thousands of dead Americans and billions of dollars lost. Just because we have a large military doesn't mean we need to be the worlds police force. Our economy can't take it. The war in Iraq and Afganistan cost us 6 trillion dollars.

The west did intervene, just not in direct military conflict. The west supported terror groups, and propped up rebel groups that would never have stood on their own, so far it looks like if the west had done nothing, syria would have been fine, but the west meddling with syria has made it a wasteland.

The USA used CIA sponsored NGOs to create turmoil and terror in Syria. The West wants to prevent Russian and Iran selling gas and oil to pipelines through Syria. They want to build their won pipelines through Syria carrying Saudi and Qatar products. It is about CORPORATISM or corporations running the World and called the NWO, New World Order. First you have to get control of all economic activity by controlling resources. Nothing to do with liberty, justice, freedom, or human rights. Russia and China are not cooperating with the program ergo they are demonized in the controlled mass media that keeps reiterating the Gov't/Pentagon/CIA narrative. Remember "Full Spectrum Dominance" and that includes the economic spectrum, the resouce spectrum, the distribution spectrum, the currency spectrum and then there are the many very profitable Military spectrums

"Suggests"??? We left this to our European and Middle East allies and made clear we would help, but it was their game. Germany prevented effective action and embarrassing as it might be, Obama was drawing lines in the sand.
We aren't quite as guilty as many would like. But we did let our allies mess up too long.

These are false and uninformed posts. There was a window of opportunity in early 2012 which was not seized.

The days of not intervening are over. That period ended in 1941. We'll stop intervening when those clowns keep their bull**** in their own countries.

Did Saddam crap on your lawn?

That's an intelligent response...lol
Saddam was keeping it in his own country. Well, except when he was in Iran.

Hussein never invaded another country? Seriously, dude?...lol

Two sentences in my post, and you missed the second one. Just how short is your attention span?

Do you call Kuwait a country

Not only do I call Kuwait a country, but I call Iran a country, too. Plus, we were maintaining a no-fly zone in northern and southern Iraq.

What opportunity was that ? Full scale invasion ?

No. There was a period when the rebels had the upper hand and were not yet pressed by the religious radicals. Timely provision of weapons, ammunition and other military supplies might have won.
