The UK and France are to step up joint patrols and increase surveillance to tackle a rise in the number of migrants trying to reach Britain in small boats.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid, who has cut short a family holiday, agreed a joint action plan with the French interior minister during a phone call.

The U.S. is not the only country with an illegal immigrant problem. But building a wall to seal off the English Channel does not seem to be a workable solution to their problem.

Probably because they already have a major natural barrier, that thing you mentioned called the English Channel.

Properly patrolled with warships and police cutters it's been able to keep out all sorts of invaders. :coffeepap:

But that's probably not the biggest challenge these migrants have faced & overcome.

I agree, but they're refugees. Migrants are cockroaches or leeches according to members of the government. These SIX people were so desparate they got in a tiny open boat and crossed the channel in winter hoping it wouldn't deflate on the way.
Six foreign refugees being saved from a small RIB caused the Home Secretary to come back from his holiday, and ran as the main opener on BBC news, pushing the news that the government gave a £14M ferry contract to bring in supplies post Brexit, to a company formed two years ago, with no ferries, and no experience of running them, based in a harbour that will have to be dredged before they can use it, down the running order!
Theresa May cut patrols last year and laid off 5,000 customs staff as Home Secretary in the name of austerity.
