CENTCOM Accused of Manipulating Intelligence on

Re: CENTCOM Accused of Manipulating Intelligence on ISIS War

Its just funny how conservatives once again accuse President Obama of exactly what Bush actually did. The CIA report used to justify the invasion of Iraq was changed at every level to make the intel more definitive. What a lucky break for Bush's secret day 1 agenda to invade Iraq that the CIA intel matched Bush's talking points.

"The documents suggest that the public relations push for war came before the intelligence analysis, which then conformed to public positions taken by Pentagon and White House officials. For example, a July 2002 draft of the "White Paper" ultimately issued by the CIA in October 2002 actually pre-dated the National Intelligence Estimate that the paper purportedly summarized, but which Congress did not insist on until September 2002."

U.S. Intelligence and Iraq WMD

"In December, the RAND Corporation issued a report that stated the CIA assessment "contained several qualifiers that were dropped ... As the draft NIE went up the intelligence chain of command, the conclusions were treated increasingly definitively."

Oh and here's where we learned Bush had a secret day 1 agenda to invade Iraq.

“From the very beginning, there was a conviction, that Saddam Hussein was a bad person and that he needed to go,” says O’Neill, who adds that going after Saddam was topic "A" 10 days after the inauguration - eight months before Sept. 11.

“From the very first instance, it was about Iraq. It was about what we can do to change this regime,” says Suskind. “Day one, these things were laid and sealed.”

So just to be clear, I'm not posting Bush did it too. I posting Bush did it. You're imagining President Obama did it.

Re: CENTCOM Accused of Manipulating Intelligence on ISIS War

A Congressional committee has found that CENTCOM, the US Middle Eastern Command, deliberately distorted intelligence reports in order to make the ISIS threat look not as severe as it was, in order to suit the political narrative back home:

The Left-leaning Democrat-biased media are of course minimizing their coverage of damning revelations like this, choosing to instead pursue fault-finding attacks on Trump's speeches while simultaneously faulting Trump for allegedly preventing them from covering these stories of concern because of his "gaffes". Talk about Straw Man tactics.

The military whether intel ground pounders etc have always sugar coated everything, this is nothing new. heck in afghanistan we had extreme levels of mercury nd lead in the moon dust sand everyone breathed, but the army tried every tactic to deny it, air force techs told us about it, but refused to make it public. We would wear balaklavas to filter out the dust because it was so bad, then our csm banned them because he did not want pictures of soldiers wearing them, because it might make the conditions look bad,p which they were.

Re: CENTCOM Accused of Manipulating Intelligence on ISIS War

Who ordered it, then?

Who said anyone ordered it? The articles strongly suggest that the leaders of Centcom took it upon themselves to manipulate the intelligence and pass it on.

Their motive may have been as simple as wanting to protect US reputation....or as covert as to sway public opinion to prevent a holy war with Islam and give ISIS what they want. Who knows, really...certainly not you.

It wasn't a decision made by a junior NCO, or officer. That decision could land them in prison.

The decision was made at a higher level and the only ones concerned reputations are sitting in The White House. That's where the decision was made. A decision that put American lives in danger.

I said the "leaders at CENTCOM." Perhaps they simply thought they were smarter than the analysts and all the others in the intelligence community, as well. If the president was trying to pull a fast one...then why wouldn't he order all the heads of intelligence agencies to paint a rosy picture, instead of just one?

A general isn't going to put his career in the line for a two-bit president.

I don't think they did it for the president.

He's the only one that could possibly benefit from it. Just like lying about the benghazi attack. See a pattern?

I see a pattern of lies alright...but not from Obama.

The president also gets intelligence from the CIA, DIA, NSA, NGA, NRO, MI, ONI, FBI, INR and Homeland Security. So it doesn't make sense that order one agency to manipulate the data and not all the others.

Whic perSon at CENTCOM did it, then and what did that person have to gain?

Obama is the CIC. He's responsible for what happens under his command. If CENTCOM was the only agency manipulating intel, why did he not notice?
