RealClearPolitics - Video - Census Worker Claims Job Numbers Are Being Inflated

Claimed, with papers to prove it, and confirmed by her boss.

Obi has opened a new Department:
The Department of Redundancy Department.
I think this was the job Obi offered Sestak.

How come we don't hear about all the jobs Obi has "saved" these days?
Guess they learned that dawg don't hunt.

.

Typical right wing hater. You just want this to be true because it would hurt Obama, you hate AMERICA!!! You cannot stand the fact Obama has saved jobs, kept families together, saved homes, lowered the level of the ocean, and put honest decent folks to work. You HATER YOU!

NYTimes article on May job growth...

As in April, most of the jobs created were temporary gov't jobs - Census workers. Are the numbers purposely being inflated? Maybe...maybe not. Depends on your point of view.

If you're unfamiliar with how temporary employment agencies work (assuming that's how "Marie" got her temp job w/the Census Burea), then I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some are stunned by this hire-layoff-rehire practise. It happens all the time with temporary employment agencies. When they don't have work for you, they release you but you remain in their system as a client for rehire until you tell them you're no longer interested (available). Ms. "Marie" didn't have to go back and work as a temp agent, but she admits she's on her 5th rehire with the Census Bureau. Okay...so every little bit helps, right? So, why complain about it? What's the point except to support the claim that employment numbers are being fixed...?

Put simply, if you believe that the hire-layoff-rehire practise w/temp employment agencies is being pushed by the government in an effort to pad employment numbers then you're in that camp that thinks the Obama Administration is playing games w/the American people.

But if you're in that camp who understands that this has been a long standing practise w/most temp employment agencies, then it's no big deal.

Personally, I'm moreso in the "no big deal" camp, but can see how the play on numbers can be viewed as disingenuous. For what it's worth, however, I'm more concerned and encouraged by the following comment from the NYTimes article:

Analysts said that the figures for May showed how important government spending has been in supporting the domestic economy.

“Without the government, the total number of payrolls would have barely increased by enough to cover population growth,” said Guy LeBas, the chief fixed-income strategist for Janney Montgomery Scott, in a research note.

The new job figures suggest that there are still headwinds to face, some of them from abroad, as the economic recovery progresses.

One area of potential growth is in the manufacturing sector. Manufacturers are slowly making gains in their businesses and that could lead to an uptick in future hiring.

The Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI, a trade association, said this week that the sector was rebounding, based on low consumer inventories and strong gains in exports. Manufacturers are “bullish on job growth in a sector that is not known for job creation,” said Daniel J. Meckstroth, the group’s chief economist. “The supply-chain pipeline is filling with orders and manufacturing firms are reluctantly, but out of necessity, adding staff,” he said.

Investors have been watching the job figures for signs of health in the economic recovery. Corporate earnings for the first quarter have been generally stronger than expected, which raises hopes for more jobs.

To me, that's far more important than how the numbers were formulated because it clearly shows that the economy is improving as a result of government spending. Or in short, taxpayer dollars weren't spent in vain.

The job numbers will really grow when Obi gets his version of the KGB.
I mean civilian militia that he wants.

I can see it now. The Black Panthers, the Fruit of Islam. Enviromaniacs. ACORN...

I suppose he plans to confiscate all guns before he sends his brown shirts out to our homes. Otherwise, there's going to be a lot less Black Panthers, Islam Fruit, Enviromaniacs and Acornholers.

If they're counted as being employed when hired, wouldn't it also be true that they would be counted as unemployed when they are laid off? Wouldn't that inflate the unemployment figures?

Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

Not so.
It's in the video.
Call it another bit of the government's fuzzy math.

Similar to how they deem a cut in the budget.
If the (pick a favorite socialist program) isn't increased by let's say the planned 4.4% that year, it's only increased by 3%... they count that as a 1.4% cut in the budget of that program.

Teach that in school.

Look at how the NJ teachers reacted to a pay freeze. Dems do the same when a pet program doesn't receive the full annual increase... they scream it's cut... Republicans are heartless... when it's not even close to the truth.

Real cuts would be nice. Hell... freezing programs would be nice.
