Census Bureau Data: 63% of non-citizens are on welfare

A majority of “non-citizens,” including those with legal green card rights, are tapping into welfare programs set up to help poor and ailing Americans, Census Bureau data shows. In fact, 63 percent of non-citizens are using a welfare program. Moreover, instead of decreasing over time, the number grows to 70 percent for those here 10 years or more.... Paul Bedard has the details in this report for the Washington Examiner[https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...n-citizens-on-welfare-4-6-million-households].... President Trump is trying to reduce the exploitation of our welfare system by immigrants. He has proposed new rules making it harder for prospective immigrants to qualify for lawful permanent residence — green cards — if they use or are likely to use U.S. welfare programs. But without a vigorous policy of deporting illegal immigrants, getting a green card might not strike some immigrants as worth having to forego welfare.... The 63 percent welfare-usage figure translates to 4,684,784 million non-citizen households receiving welfare. Nearly all of them, 4,370,385, have at least one worker in the house.

Anytime you choose to give things away will always draw a crowd. The original U.S. immigration policies were established to make sure THIS didn't happen. We have been corrupted by Progressive Marxist Socialist politicians who have an agenda where they are indifferent to how they affect a change in our society. Congress can fix this by passing a law that sends these people back where they came from. The "Deep State" must be defeated and made to comply with the laws of this land.
William the Impeached had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the table to sign welfare … The Obama administration, gave benefits to more people who weren't working as defined. Obama and his Progressive Marxist Socialist Democrat cohorts claimed the problem was that the current definitions at the time were too restrictive, and that loosening them would lead to more people getting jobs and being self-sufficient in the long run. W R O N G. Just as we saw and experienced for the next seven years. Now we also see that this largess was also extended to non-citizens. No welfare should be funded by the federal government for Non-Citizens.

We can only hope Congress will fund the wall system.

We can only hope Congress will fund the wall system.

Rather than pay for a wall, simply go after employers for hiring illegal immigrants and not make it so that only American citizens can receive welfare benefits. If they have no job or way to pay for food then they will have no incentive for coming in the first place. A wall will help but as long as there is opportunity for them they will find a way.

What is the percentage of citizens that receive the same benefits?

In this particular study, "welfare" is a pretty broad term that encompasses a whole lot of things. It's pretty meaningless here.

Illegals cannot get welfare, that's a fact.

Doesn't really matter how broad the interpretation of the term is used, outside of a bus ticket home, no tax money should be spent on someone here illegally.

Depends what you consider 'welfare' Those who pay school tax may consider it welfare that they are paying for illegal's children to go to their schools.

A large share of the welfare used by immigrant households is received on behalf of their US-born children.

Also the fact that although they may technically not be eligible, they do still get it.
That's because the burden of determining lawful status in the U.S. is on the shoulders of county social services employees who have neither the legal jurisdiction nor the practical ability to determine one's immigration status. Only an immigration official or federal worker whom the Secretary of Homeland Security has authorized may determine the immigration status of a person in the country.

Typically, any proof an illegal alien provides as evidence of legal status, regardless of its fraudulent nature, will satisfy social services agencies that determine the person's benefit eligibility because an intake clerk simply cannot make the determination that someone is an illegal alien. Therefore, the law is usually overlooked and illegal aliens manage to qualify for state and local benefits.

I SO agree we need this, too. As for the wall in certain areas, I'm going from CBP's Chief who is emphatic that building a physical barrier in certain areas will help, and I trust that she knows.
We need E-verify for everyone. End of story. Why is this so hard?
Lobbyists would be my guess.

Why does that matter?

It matters because they want to make a false equivalence of there being more citizens on welfare than illegal immigrants. Never acknowledging the fact that illegals are supposed to be barred completely from receiving any and all welfare.

Here's a couple of curious things related to the story.
Apparently the Census doesn't usually ask if you're a citizen.
So how are the figures derived?
The other curious thing is that there was a big kerfuffle earlier this year when the Justice Department asked the Commerce Department to ask the question on the census again.
The Left really didn't like that at all.
Lawsuits and everything.
I guess unfortunate results like this might be one reason why.

Sorry, there is no way you will ever convince a rational person that leaving the kids of illegal immigrants out of school and running the streets to save a few bucks is a good idea. Go to the slums of India to see how well that works.
By the way, those slums are literally EVERYWHERE.

Compared to the corporate welfare we dole out, the literally HUNDREDS of BILLIONS that the Pentagon can't even account for, the massive subsidies to oil companies, the wasted money that goes to big pharmaceutical manufacturers because we're not allowed to negotiate drug prices for the American people, the money spent on feeding and schooling some kids is picayune.

But you go right ahead and continue to blame them for the bulk of our economic problems if it makes you feel better.

I'm not blaming anything on anybody. Where did I do that?

I was addressing your statement, that's it. How did "Illegals cannot get welfare, that's a fact." morph into a so what...."compared to the corporate welfare" argument?

Think about it. It will come to you.

Thought about it and I've determined it has nothing to do with what the thread is about, so it was just a trolling statement. Thanks.

You've thought wrong. Perhaps adjust your thinking?
