Celebrities from your City

Nashville has a lot of famous people.

I think you're claiming a few too many there Digs. Without going through your whole list I know that Hendrix was from Seattle, Steve Earle and Townes Van Zandt are/were Texans, and Johnny Cash was from Arkansas. How are you defining the word 'from'?

Hendrix has lived in Nashville at some part of his life, and has spent there a great part of his career.
I think that if the famous person has lived in the city he counts as a celebrity from that city.

Nah! That doesn't work for me. If you then take most of the major cities of the World (LA, NYC, London, Paris to name just four), they'd all be able to claim almost ALL the World's celebrities and leave the list for any city meaningless. Hendrix lived for quite a time in London and Paris, but you could hardly say he came from either. Madonna's lived in London for 13 years, she ain't no Cockney.

Yeah, I don't think it's everybody who winds up there. Just those FROM here.

I didn't claim Bob Dylan or Judy Garland because they're both from the Iron Range, and I'm from central MN.

But Shania Twain is not from Nashville.

check your math:

seemed high so i did the convesrion using 43560 sq ft per acre and backed into km
i get 3.48 sq km (1.609 sq mi)

Not my math - got the list from the Wiki page on my hometown (and added a few that weren't listed). ;)

But Shania Twain is not from Nashville.

I copied that from wikipedia. Shania is from Canada, but I believe she has lived in Nashville for some time (which I guess can somewhat qualify her for being "from" here). Her reccord company is based in Nashville and is called Mercury Nashville. Looks like we have to share this one

Nashville hated her guts when she first broke onto the scene, both because she is of aboriginal origin, and because she was a Canadian mimmicking Nashville style. In her first concert there they booed her. It wasn't until she became famous outside of Nashville that she was able to break through, and even then that was only made possible by her Canadian base.

She is a Canadian whose music successfully conquered Nashville. But I can understand why you would think she is from there. :)

I gotta agree with Orion. Otherwise nobody would have anybody famous from their hometown. Everybody famous would be from Hollywood (or Nashville, or wherever else talent and fame meet and move to). New York City, etc.

Ahh, I wonder though if there is any corroboration to her claim... Not defending nashville at all, pop country sucks, but claims like this seem more media hype than anything else usually.

Or could be just her own lack of esteem, or not being liked for one reason and assuming it's another.

Man, I miss Anne Murray. What a beautiful, soothing voice.
