"Love me, Love my Cat."
—Sappho
I
A proper young lady from Kent,
Whilst recalling a night she'd misspent,
Fondled her kitty,
Sighed, "Oh, what a pity!"
Whilst her kitty was purring content.
II
There once was a girl from Canarsie
Whose cat, when aroused, hissed in Farsi!
Brooklyn men old and young,
Her cat got their tongue,
Meowling "Mene! Tekel! Upharsin!"
III
A coy demoiselle from North Platte
kept her druthers tucked under her hat—
She smiled with her lips
Sashayed with her hips,
But let no one else play with her cat!
IV
A magnanimous woman from Crete
had a cat as sweet as was sweet!
But as the right way to live
it is better to give—
she gave it away on the street!
V
I once knew a girl from Madrid,
Who pretended she didn't, but did.
She had a pet cat,
a dog and a rat—
And her bush cricket chirped Katydid!
VI
A vicarious lady from Leeds
had a cat of three different breeds—
come morning, come noon,
come night none too soon!—
she daily took care of its needs.
VII
A strapping young she from Stambool
had a cat so relaxed as a rule—
Touch, pet, poke or tease it,
you could never displease it!
And the feeling was quite mutual!
VIII
I once knew a girl in Capri
whose love was decidedly free.
She didn't need chat—
Just be nice to her cat
And she'd waive any surcharge or fee.
IX
There's a marvelous creature McCat
ever ready to give tit for tat.
A few gentle strokes—
I ain't kidding you, folks!
The whole thing is as easy as that!
X
I once knew a chick in Laguna
Whose cat felt like soft warm vicuna.
Some wine and a spliff
And I ventured a sniff—
Quite surprised that it hailed from Altoona!
