Another invasion of privacy?

Virginia has a requirement that any state registered vehicle submit to a safety inspection every 12 months. The missus bought a new car last year in MD and we registered in Virginia, where we live. I was a little put off when CARFAX started alerting me, via email, what services were due. Now CARFAX has alerted me to the fact that the state inspection is due this month. I know the owner of the shop where we got the last inspection done. He tells me that he doesn’t have a relationship with CARFAX. Where does CARFAX get their data from?
 
That doesn't sound right. I bought my car from Carvana; it came with a Carfax report. I thought Carfax was a watchdog for cars that have been involved in collisions- I have NEVER been contacted by Carfax for any reason. Ga. doesn't require state inspections, they do however require emmission testing to renew your license every year; costs 15.00. If you don't pass, it tells you what you need to fix, and it's usually oxygen sensors, or a bad gas cap.

If I were you, I'd contact your DMV.
 
I have. If you got your oil changed anywhere but a participating dealer, they don't know.

Ignore them
 
From the insurance companies who get their info from the dealerships and dmv.

If it's safety as well(road worthy) and not just emissions, you bet they wanna know.

And they have their ways. Find your info the same way a scammer in Jamaica does. The internet.
Except they get special access, cause they're insuring you.

Here in Georgia, your proof of insurance in connected to the DMV. No insurance, no emmissions test, no license renewal. You'll get pulled over in a heartbeat with an expired tag.

Here you sign a paper at BMV(as it is here-just pick one-department or bureau.)stating you carry insurance.
But I'm sure they know. Believe I've heard of people getting notice after records found no insurance.

They ditched the emissions here. Had to do it once.

Got pulled over for expired tag once...once! Damn plate cameras!
"Yeah, I'm getting them here in a couple days"(within a week)

"Your license is expired too.."

"Shit, guess I need that too!"

"Give you a warning, get it taken care of."
 
Wow, get pulled over here with an expired tag and license and you're going to jail and your vehicle gets impounded.
 
CARFAX knows the age of your car and the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. If you are having maintenance performed by a service center that does not report to CARFAX, they assume you have not had the maintenance performed and they will contact you about it. The VIN number is the basis for the registration call.
 
They also know when my inspection expires. Unless the state is reporting this, CARFAX has no way of knowing.

Damn! This was even a 'hungry' little village, but he was cool.
It did help that at the time was when I was still working 40, then side work nights/weekends to migrate to my own.

It was getting dark and he looked about the truck.

It is really annoying. I've had my car for almost 8 years and a few years ago CARFAX must have been brought into the loop. They now send me e-mails on a regular basis saying my car needs a recall repair that I don't consider necessary and have no plans of following through on. Just yesterday I received an e-mail from them that my car was due for inspection. I've already received that from TX DMV. They also send me messages saying it is time for an oil change when I'm up-to-date. Their messages are not relevant, and I hate them.
