SABMiller To Build South African Gas Plant For US$13.4 Million
(Monday, March 19, Bloomberg)
SABMiller Plc will spend US$13.4 million to build a new carbon-dioxide plant after a second shortage in three months affected production. Amalgamated Beverage Industries Ltd., the company's South African unit, is only receiving about 45 percent of the gas it needs for soft-drinks production because of breakdowns at suppliers including Sasol Ltd. and PetroSA, SABMiller said in a statement. Shortages of Coca-Cola and Coke Light may start in a few days, the company said. Priority will given to ensure supplies of the most popular pack sizes, the company said.
It's odd that on one hand we have growing amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere, yet shortages to manufacture our soft drinks.
Wouldn't it be great if CO2 for commercial use could be pulled from the atmosphere.
