Capitol Cop Aquitted of All Charges for Killing Babbitt

"A U.S. Capitol Police officer has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing for fatally shooting Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt as she attempted to breach a set of doors deep in the Capitol during the January siege, federal prosecutors in D.C. announced Wednesday.

Authorities determined that there was insufficient evidence to prove Babbitt’s civil rights were violated, and that it was reasonable for the officer to believe he was firing in self-defense or in defense of members of Congress and aides who were fleeing the House chamber. Prosecutors did not identify the officer."

Good. If Biden was an evil troll like Trump is - Biden would give award the officer the Congressional Medal of Freedom for bravery. The cop was just doing his job - but this, again, shows how evil Republicans are. trump awarded the damn thing to Limbaugh, another troll.
Now that Limbaugh's dead, I'm more worried about who is taking his place.

I know there are a bunch of similar radio hosts hanging around so someone will, but it remains to be seen if they'll have as much influence.

Not worth any time looking through old posts, so I’ll take you at your word.

There was no reason at the time to believe Babbitt wasn’t a legitimate imminent threat to the officer or members of Congress, and she wasn’t shot in the head.

No surprise that someone who considers Babbitt a “defenseless woman” would also be ignorant of basic facts involved.

“As members of the mob continued to strike the glass doors, Ms. Babbitt attempted to climb through one of the doors where glass was broken out. An officer inside the Speaker’s Lobby fired one round from his service pistol, striking Ms. Babbitt in the left shoulder, causing her to fall back from the doorway and onto the floor. A USCP emergency response team, which had begun making its way into the hallway to try and subdue the mob, administered aid to Ms. Babbitt, who was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.”
Neither was hands up don’t shoot but when someone disobeys police orders and gets themselves killed riots are attempted to be justified by some media personalities as saying things who says protests have to be peaceful. Maybe even alter the 911 call a little in air. Facts only matter in certain shootings the rest are narrative is more important.

Im confused the OP says he was acquitted of all charges but the article says the prosecutors decided not to charge the officer.

There will be no trial for murder and there wouldn't be a conviction even if their was a trial ginned up for political reasons.

During the riots that day members of the mob had already demonstrated a willingness to use force that would result in loss of life or serious bodily injury. Reports of these actions were transmitted over the police radio net which Lt. Byrd was able to monitor. Lt. Byrd had also personally observed the mob of rioters outside the door to the Speakers Lobby (Hallway) use improvised melee weapons in a demonstration of violence breaking through the last police barricade prior to the mob having access to the House Floor, the door of which was within just a couple of steps of the breached barricade.

Under the D.C. Code as to when deadly force can be used: "The law enforcement officer reasonably believes that deadly force is immediately necessary to protect the law enforcement officer or another person, other than the subject of the use of deadly force, from the threat of serious bodily injury or death;"

Given the situation at the time, the violence the mob had already demonstrated a willingness to use, and given the proximity of the mob to members of congress, their staff, and other civilians a reasonable person would believe that Lt. Byrd's, other law enforcement officers, members of congress or other civilians were in immediate danger of death or serious bodily injury.

It is apparent some people go by "feelings" in what they want to have happen, but at no time in the future will Lt. Byrd be tried in a criminal court of his justifiable shooting of a rioter breaching a police barricade and trying to reach members of congress.

WW
My daughter and I watched the attack live and she kept screaming “why aren’t they shooting them”…

There should have been a pile of bodies that day, not just one…

What in the name of all that is good are you babbling about now? A woman shot in cold blood and this is the post?
:sick::poop:

Justified homicide in defense of the republic.

We will continue to repeat the damage Trump did until he his finished as a threat to run again. It sort of a “lest we forget” thing, to keep the country safe from his pathology.
Sure, go for it.

Tucker's the douche who's come into the limelight with his virtue signaling to Putin. He's a special kind of demon, that Tucker.

Deflection ignored.

Babbitt is the subject. She was responsible for her own death.

Hopefully, the government doesn’t give her family a penny.

She was no hero or martyr. She was a seriously troubled, out of control person.

“In the months before her death, Babbitt had become consumed by pro-Trump conspiracy theories and posted angry screeds on social media. She also had a history of making violent threats.

Her Twitter account, which was taken down after her death, was rife with references to the QAnon conspiracy theory, which centers on the baseless belief that Trump has secretly battled deep-state enemies and a cabal of Satan-worshiping cannibals that includes prominent Democrats who operate a child sex trafficking ring.

“Nothing will stop us,” Babbitt tweeted Jan. 5. “They can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours….dark to light!”

I noticed that as well, he was never charged.

If you want to call Ashli Babbitt's killing justified, I don't have a large problem with that. But don't ever complain to me about a cop shooting someone who has grabbed their taser or reaching for a knife again.

"Don't ever" . . . lol

Why would you try to gaslight us into thinking that every single police shooting is identical and therefore should be treated the same? So, so stupid.

We should never forget!!!
No, we should not!

Gotcha lies and deceit are ignored by you when it fits your needs

No, you're not confused. I mischaracterized his mode of being cleared of wrongdoing. Your are correct. He didn't stand trial, nor should he.

She won't get anything from the government. No way.

It would have been interesting if it was a white cop that shot an unarmed black female trying to enter a restricted area in the Capital.

LOL. Nope. Nice try, Black or white she was impeding an official government proceeding. Her death, although tragic was no one's fault but hers.

How many other people were "impeding an official government proceeding" that day? There must have been dozens shot that day. I didn't know that crime was punishable by death.

How many other people in the last 30 years was murdered when they impeded an official government proceeding?
Isn't a school board hearing an official government proceeding? How many were shot?
How much disruption during the Kavanaugh hearings? Anyone shot?
How many shot when rioters were trying to burn down a federal building in Portland?

As long as the woman shot was a Trump supporter, the left wouldn't have a problem with it. Now if it was a BLM riot, and was not on Jan. 6, yeah there is no doubt there would be outrage over it.

You poor poor victim. Sounds like you should renounce your citizenship, leave, and never, ever, come back.

The vast majority of police shootings we have seen held up as examples of police abuse and racism against black people have been far more justifiable than Babbitt's shooting.

No thanks. And you know what I said is the truth.
