Lots of people like to spout that capitalism has made huge advancements in medicine because it provides the impetus for advancement, but it simply is not so. Capitalism did not actually do that, socialism did. At least a form of socialism did, and now that form of socialism is being hampered by the right from doing what it should do. The trillions of dollars that drive research and development come from people putting money together and funding it. There is no rich daddy at the top of all of that. We pay taxes to the government. We make demand for medicine. We pay our insurance premiums because we want there to be something good there when we get sick. No one buys healthy. People pay for a cure. Healthy is a state where you do not need a cure. It is the state you wish to be at, and you pay money to go there when you are not. This is why socialism is the way health care has to be. because you have not the funds to pay to train a surgeon to be avialable for you if you need them. So we train them beforehand and we all contribute to their training and their research so we all are better taken care of. Capitalism does not work well that way because you are always sucking profit off. Socialism puts profit back into advancement. Yes, that is how medicine works the best.

Well silly argument that we cannot afford to put someone through medical school, therefore medicine should be "socialized" could pretty much apply to every profession. If you can't afford to train a mechanic, you're entitled to socialized auto repairs.

Let's see:

Polio cure - Jonas Salk via funding from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (predecessor of March of Dimes) a nonprofit private organization...capitalism

Your turn...

OK public funding for medical research is not socialism. Public roads and parks are not socialism. ObamaCare is not socialism. They are policies. Socialism and capitalism are systems that consist of many different policies and regimes.
