This is basically for the supporters of President Trump.

When candidate Trump was on the stump going here, there and yonder and started talking about his wall and he said mexico was going to pay, did you believe him?

I think he believed he would get Congressional support to pass the legislation necessary to ensure that Mexico payed for the wall. He found out very quickly that he wouldn't be getting that support.

Me? I hoped he would get that support, but I had my doubts. I also hoped he would find another way to make them pay. He still might.

Why would he think he would get congressional support when he was only a candidate? Yes, he found out his own party won't support paying for his wall.

No, not at all. It is OUR border, we pay for the wall.

Of course they bought it. Hook, line and sinker. But now they will rationalize it the same way the Tangerine Toddler has.

Nope. The only thing that I believed about Trump was that he would tax and regulate less and spend more - much like Reagan did. BTW, I did not vote for Trump.

Because republicans are dupes and vote only for people with an R in front of their name. So, from that perspective, I think he knew he could get republicans to jump in line behind him, no matter what he proposed. His narcissism also played a small role too!

So, you did not believe Trump when he promised that Americans would not be on the hook for the wall?

Interesting.

How do you thing Congress could pass legislation that makes Mexico pay for the wall? What would that legislation say?
Bear in mind that whatever 'the wall' looks like it's gonna cost about three times what Trump or anyone else in government says it'll cost. More, probably. Mexico has pretty deep pockets, do they?

If we did not allow the employment of illegal immigrants, offer them free eduction/medical care and provide them sanctuary state/cities to reside in then we would not need a wall.

They pay property taxes, so they are not getting educated for free.

Actually, he found out that members of his own Party don't want a wall.

Interesting.

Promises are just that...promises. Those things tend to come up against reality and aren't always possible. Heck, I don't think you can show me one President to actually did everything he promised.

But one thing nobody can deny is that Trump has been working to meet his promises since the day he was elected.

Trump presented some ways of doing it way back when he was a candidate. They would work. Beyond that, I'm sure that if everyone put their heads together they could think of a few more ways.

I know you don't have any hard numbers about cost, so I won't bother to respond to your "three times" contention.

Off-Topic:
I doubt anyone's going to today say yes.

You may get a more accurate answer using the advanced search function looking for Mexico references in 2016-2016. That may take some time, but given the dissembling degeneracy I've observed from Trumpkins in general (not necessarily DP's Trumpkins, but not necessarily not some of them either), I wouldn't trust them to tell the truth any more than I do Trump, which is not at all.

No. I always considered it bombast and campaign-speak.

Why?

Mexico is a foreign power not subject to our control. We can't "tax" them, and there is no reason for them to "voluntarily" pay anything at all.

I just figured he was either trying to be entertaining, or at best meant that some combination of trade deals and/or some other substitute (along the lines of his recent "drug money we seize") would "pay" for it.

They pay property taxes, so they are not getting educated for free.

Look at the annual cost to educate a K-12 student and then look at how much low wage workers pay in annual property tax. I will cede the point that everyone pays at least some taxes but the lower that one's wage is then the less the amount of tax is.

Those lower wage workers also hold down the wages/benefits of their co-workers reducing the taxation per worker even further. There are no jobs that US workers will not do - there are, however, jobs that US workers would prefer not to do for the wages/benefits offered. If a McJob plus "safety net" benefits (for those who qualify) nearly equals the pay/benefits offered for a more demanding job then that path may become more appealing.

No, we can dispute that too. Between playing golf, starting his schedule at 10:30am or later, "executive time" watching fox news, tweeting, watching movies, and chatting with friends...he has really worked all that much since the day he was elected.

He failed to repeal and replace.
He failed to get mexico to pay for a wall.
He failed to hire the best and brightest (he's got a skeleton crew at this point)
He didn't stop tweeting and start acting presidential
He didn't stay in the white house working and not golf as he said he would (while criticizing Obama)
He's filled the swamp rather than drain it.
He failed to pass a big infrastructure plan.

He did champion coal and fossil fuels and de-regulate EPA.
He did attempt a muslim ban and got rejected.
His staff did re-negotiate some trade deals with mixed results
He did pass tax cuts for the wealthy/corporations.

What waste of a presidency.

So basically he got all the typical Republican things in for corporations and the wealthy.
And a little lip-service to the rest.

Any warm bodied Republican with a Republican House and Senate gets judges in (thanks federalists), and does all the day to day crap that Trupm sure as hell didn't do himself.
Similarly, economic ups and downs are always POTUs when it's up, and everyone else when it's down...no cigar there either.

Watched every speech....literally, that Mexico would write a check, no. He did not believe that either nor did those listening.

So it appears that you agree with me. You were wrong and they do not get educated for free, like you first claimed. LMAO!

There's entertaining and there's lying. So after two years why do you think he made such a big deal about something he didn't mean? When he started with the wall it was flat out mexico is going to pay. There was no talk of trade deals or drug money, mexico was going to pay period. Which brings me to this, did he lie to you or did he lie to me?

Again, they pay property taxes. If you can't prove me wrong, I have no reason to change my belief. I mean, nice try and all. LMAO!

OK, keep telling yourself that folks with HS or less education and who can't speak, read or write English are a net economic benefit.

Hush, you might wake the brain dead. I said might.

LMAO! You at first said they get educated for free, then had to change your position and "cede" that they do pay taxes that pay for that education. Now that's funny!

It never ceases to amaze me how the republicans can't seem to remember these things from the man they seem to idolize. I actually enjoy reading the comments twisting themselves into verbal knots trying to defend him and telling everyone what he actually meant like we didn't hear him say mexico was paying and at another point mexico would write a check, it's hilarious.
