Canadian General Trevor Cadieu was captured by Russian forces as he tried to flee from the Azovstal factory complex which had been put under siege by Russian forces in Mariupol.

Cadieu, who had once been positioned to take over as head of Canada's armed forces, had resigned from the army after a sex scandal investigation against him.

I wonder if any of those Canadian special forces operators who have been training Ukrainians since 2015 have involved themselves in the fighting. They were known to go into battle against ISIS with the Kurds they were training.

So if you were posting honestly...parish the thought, the title would have been ex-Canadian General Captured in Ukraine

I see plenty of former US generals referred to on TV as generals, not ex-generals:

However, note that this Canadian ex-general is then not entitled to POW protections under international law, and would be treated as a mercenary.

So not actually a Canadian general. Such a surprise that you would use a dishonest click-bait thread title. Not.

So he wasn't actually a general at the time he was captured.
