OTTAWA — Canada is taking steps to protect the steel and aluminum industries with new counter-tariffs and protectionist policies, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday.
At a press conference, Carney pointed out that he and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed to pursue a trade deal to end tariffs within the next 30 days.
"In parallel, we must reinforce our strength at home and safeguard Canadian workers and businesses from the unjust U.S. tariffs," he said.
shrug...Carney isn't waiting around for dumbass to get his act together. These tariffs will throttle steel and aluminum imports while encouraging Canadian companies to use our own industry's product.

This won't help them when it comes time to talk next month.
He never stops with the endless/mindless posts.
It will. The best approach to dealing with bullies is to stand up to them.shrug...

He doesn’t care about US workers. It will. The best approach to dealing with bullies is to stand up to them.
Hopefully the reciprocal tariffs the world is levying on American exports will result in job losses for US workers. That will pressure dumbass into talking.

LOL!! Right.Sure it will, because retaliatory tariffs are supposed to work, right?
All they'll do is give US companies more incentive to cut loose from Canada's products and make them ourselves.Hopefully the reciprocal tariffs the world is levying on American exports will result in job losses for US workers. That will pressure dumbass into talking.
Who called who first and ended up with a deal where Americans face higher costs AND the continued sourcing of rare earth minerals will still come from China?LOL!! Right.
Ask China if they work.
Sure. All they'll do is give US companies more incentive to cut loose from Canada's products and make them ourselves.

What Mycroft is arguing is that tariffs are effective when America imposes them but not when other countries do the same.Really...read the quip from the CEO from Alcoa in post #11......ain't happening
To think Trump would care about lost jobs is a bit naive at the point. Trumps point is to concentrate power, not bring jobs home. Trump has to establish his control before he could rework the economy to support the state. The tariffs serve the goal. He has to beat the population into submission first. It will. The best approach to dealing with bullies is to stand up to them.

These tariffs won't be part of any new trade agreement between the US and Canada. And if these tariffs were part of a treaty ratified by Congress and somewhat predictable, and not the whims of a self-absorbed sundowning octogenarian, you may be right.
But no one is going to invest billions into capacity on the backs of tariffs that may not exist next week.
These tariffs won't be part of any new trade agreement between the US and Canada.
The USMCA is going to get tossed.A trade agreement between the US and Canada already exists. Any stupid nonsense Trump comes up with will be worth the paper it is printed on. He could change his mind on the crapper two days later.
Assuming he doesn't just sign blank pages and tells everyone it's an agreement.
The USMCA is going to get tossed.
Yes. It's cute that so soon after the US and the EU signed a preliminary trade deal, America's little brother "Canada" still wants to huff its chest and push a trade war with Trump.LOL!! Right.
Ask China if they work.
