Carney isn't waiting around for dumbass to get his act together. These tariffs will throttle steel and aluminum imports while encouraging Canadian companies to use our own industry's product.

It will. The best approach to dealing with bullies is to stand up to them.

Hopefully the reciprocal tariffs the world is levying on American exports will result in job losses for US workers. That will pressure dumbass into talking.

Carney has no choice but to stand up for Canadian workers who are being hammered by the unfair 50% aluminum and steel tariffs. The American Aluminum industry is hurting badly too. I think the pressure on these tariffs will be both internal and external. I think Carney has a couple of carrots up his sleeve when it comes to finalizing the trade talks over the next 30 days and one of them may be Trump's precious Golden Dome.

Here is a more complete article on what the Alcoa CEO said. Notice the point about electricity.....you simply don't have the electricity in the quantities needed......but guess what? We do !

To think Trump would care about lost jobs is a bit naive at the point. Trumps point is to concentrate power, not bring jobs home. Trump has to establish his control before he could rework the economy to support the state. The tariffs serve the goal. He has to beat the population into submission first.

Authoritarianism demands obedience over everything else. The tariffs buy time to do that. It's much easier to combat people without the means to fight. And now that Trump can use the National Guard for his bidding, we are headed to a climax soon.

And if these tariffs were part of a treaty ratified by Congress and somewhat predictable, and not the whims of a self-absorbed sundowning octogenarian, you may be right.

But no one is going to invest billions into capacity on the backs of tariffs that may not exist next week.

A trade agreement between the US and Canada already exists. Any stupid nonsense Trump comes up with will be worth the paper it is printed on. He could change his mind on the crapper two days later.

Assuming he doesn't just sign blank pages and tells everyone it's an agreement.

Yes. It's cute that so soon after the US and the EU signed a preliminary trade deal, America's little brother "Canada" still wants to huff its chest and push a trade war with Trump.
