Reuters reported:

Canada and other U.S. allies are looking to President-elect Joe Biden to re-engage with the world on such issues as climate change and free trade, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a Reuters Next interview aired on Thursday.

U.S. re-engagement on the world stage would be a welcome reversal of the short-sighted and sometimes chaotic managed retreat from world affairs that had been pursued by President Donald Trump. That retreat had undermined mutually beneficial economic ties, undercut global efforts to address climate change, and increased instability in parts of the world that are already subject to instability and/or the implications of a shifting balance of power. Re-engagement itself will be just a first step. Much work will lie ahead in restoring credibility to American commitments and repairing the economic and geopolitical damage that resulted from the Trump Administration’s abandoning numerous agreements and its misguided efforts to impose higher security costs on allied nations, even as the security partnerships are beneficial to the United States and its allies alike.

Cool. They are hoping Biden will open the US piggy bank back up.

But guess what...the USMCA is still in effect.

Sorry about that, Trudeau.

It is important for the rest of the world understand wasnt that a child wearing diapers verbalized US policy for 4 years, and now an adult wearing diapers will give it a shot - but that shot may have caveats.

Trudeau should know that the future may mean taking care of the American people, with a limited return to world politics. Can US citizens get some time with a impeached president for a bit?

It would be nice.

Oh my God, the US spends so much pork on Canada, that the nation is filled with Canadian bacon.

Biden must end foreign aid to Canada, it takes up 1000% of the US budget.

Are they simply saying that because an adult is back in the White House?

Yup. Canada, like most of the rest of the world, appreciates the positive influence the US brings to global relations when there's a grown up in charge.

Icing on the cake will be if Putin is a little less cocky going forward.

i wonder how nervous smaller counties have been during the last month. they are at our mercy (and many just assume we'll be sane and a steadying influence on the world).

Not true. There are significant differences...and Canada was opposed to most of them.

Go look up a chart showing what's different between the two agreements. There are few differences listed and those that are are very palatable to Canada. It's a reasonable agreement imo.

See, this is the difference between Trumpers and Americans. Trumpers just cannot, for the life of them, comprehend friendship. It’s all about money and greed.

What can you do for me. (and me alone)

I think they'd settle for just sane!

Those differences are what caused Canada to walk away from negotiations...until Mexico signed on with the US. Canada had a choice to either get on board or have to negotiate bilateral agreements with each of the other two countries. They eventually made the right decision.

I don't think we walked away from negotiations. The threat was made but was seen at the time as brinksmanship as the US was also threatening to freeze us out and do a separate deal with Mexico alone. All part of the game.

Sorry about that, Trudeau.

You mean NAFTA 1.1a?

you are aware the biggest change between NAFTA and the USMCA is the name.

the biggest concession Trump got in the entire deal was the US getting their initials first in the name
