Can you be against the death penatly but at the same time be against banning the death penalty?

I am curious what every anti-death penalty person will say.

I am for the death penalty so my opinion on this subject is invalid.

Isn't this kind of like a paradox?

theoretically, you could be against the death penalty, but support the right of the jury to choose. :rofl

Of course they can be against the death penatly but be against banning the death penalty. People "can" do many things. It is called choice. You might find that choice hypocritical or rational, or anything else for that matter...this is somehting that you seem to be very conflicted about james. Developing as a person can be confusing...let me know when you need more help.

I would think so.

The fake prolifer speaks.

I am not Pro-Life.
Can I help you do this in brail?
Perhaps another language?
Do you beleave it? Haha…

Do you understand the concept of critical thinking? I suggest you apply it to what I say if you do…what I talk about are lessons in understanding.

I am not sure if you are simply one of the dumbest individuals one the planet or if you play at ignorance because you think it is coy...either way, put up or shut up bro...you are boring and wrong simultaneously...and that is a gift.

The main reason I'm against the death penalty is because I think death is the easy way out. A lifetime of solitary confinement is a much more deserving punishment for killing another human being, given that we all die eventually.

jamesrage,
This is your thread, why not promote civility rather than personally criticize the contributors?

BodiSatva,
If you feel unjustly characterized, please use your report button rather than flaming. It will get you into trouble here.

Getting back on topic...

I am actually against the death penalty (but I am very glad most people disagree with me because it isn't about sympathy for the murderers) and I am very much against banning it.

1) Most people are against banning it. The public should decide.

2) The federal government has no authority (as the Founders intended things) to interfere with state level criminal justice.

3) Prosecutors are aided greatly by having the leverage of the death penalty on their side.

4) It does send a message and it does deter people who would otherwise kill.

I think it's a similar quandary as the whole "If you are against abortion, just don't ever have one" stuff.

And there are quite a few people have have managed to adopt that very attitude in a personal way. They believe abortion is wrong, so they'd never be involved in that industry themselves, but they wish people to make their own choices on the matter.

Most people, however, want it stopped if they genuinely see it as inhumane..........I'd guess most persons who are against the death penalty for humane type reasons would feel the same way..........it must be stopped altogether.

But I do believe it's technically possible to hold one set of personal beliefs and not expect society to apply them straight across the board just because you believe them. In this case it would mean advocating for alternatives to CP and never being part of such a verdict against another human and not working in the prison industry etc I suppose.

Not sure if would feel like "enough" if you were trying against it.......but then, as I pointed out above, there are other similar issues in which people find ways to live with their inner conflict w/o wishing the government to legislate their beliefs.

I do agree, it's a valid question.

I am also anti-DP, for reasons uninvolving sympathy for murderers, and have also always been content to let each state decide. While I dislike my own state's love of the procedure (I live in Virginia) and I'm constantly volunteering with various anti-DP groups in the hopes of changing things here, I do have to admit I very much appreciate the way our constitution was framed. Even when I don't get my way on things, I feel they did a good job in this area.

Point taken mixedmedia...

Sorry to all for the flame, it is inappropriate and to james...I apologize as well.
