Can we really trust the mail in vote process as it stands?

So no different than an absentee ballot... Can you cite ONE difference between a mail in ballot and an absentee ballot in any state?

I'll leave it to you to compare states.

But here is CA's mail in vote system:

"mailing it to your county elections official;

Vote-by-mail ballots that are mailed must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by your county elections office no later than 17 days after Election Day."

Vote By Mail - November 3, 2020, General Election | California Secretary of State

So...California won't have their election count until more than TWO WEEKS after election day.

That was my original point...before you started getting nitpicky about absentee ballots. In my opinion...based on the actions of MY state...California has set up crappy laws, processes and procedures. Nefarious individuals and organizations have more than TWO WEEKS to do their dirty work.

I believe that everything you mentioned is paid for with taxes or payroll deductions which are imposed on our citizens. There is no free lunch.

And I of course, do not disagree with you. Aint socialism fun!

I don't get it. If they have 17 days, how can they call a winner election night?

And in 2016, California didn't have their election count till two weeks after election day. Is there some requirement that election totals need to be completed by the next day?

sigh...

You can nitpick all you want, but this is the first year that anyone is calling for ALL mail-in voting, such as what Colorado has.

For sure, all states have had absentee ballots. That is not the same thing as all mail-in voting.

So, it’s only fundamentally insecure when lots of people do it? Curious claim.

And yes, actually, an absentee ballot and a mail-in ballot are the same thing. I know, you think there’s a different with whether it’s solicited. That is incorrect.

They can't.

We won't know who won for more than two weeks.

In 2016, most people in CA voted at the polls. We knew the results election night. That can't happen this year with all the votes mail in.

As I said before...besides laws, process and procedure...it's volume.

explain please.

For simplicity, let's say there are 100 registered voters in a state and only two candidates on the ballot. We have an election and some people vote in person, some by mail. For our scenario, we let's use these numbers.

30 people vote in person and 70 vote by mail.

The election is over and we start counting votes. After counting the in person votes, candidate A got 15 votes and candidate B got 15 votes. It's a tie but there are still 70 votes left to count. We start counting the votes cast by mail, as soon as one candidate receives 51 votes, there is no longer any need to count the rest of the votes. The candidate with 51 votes is the winner. In our scenario, the lowest possible number of mail in ballots that would need to be counted would be 36 ballots.

Why do you not list your location like so many of us do? Are you not proud of where you live? Man up and tell everyone where you are.

I can't say that I am proud of where I live but I sure am happy to be in Florida. I will add that info to my profile if you think that makes a difference. As a citizen or at least a resident of our great country you are free to say about us what you want. Canadians, not so much in by book.

You are obviously one that can't see the trees for the forest. Absentee is by request with a valid reason. Mail-in is indiscriminate and frought with the possibility of massive fraud.

People keep repeating this distinction like its true and it’s ****ing not.

Mail in ballots are not “indiscriminate.”

It should be NONE of your freaking business what my reason for absentee voting is... States like mine (Texas) who restrict who can vote absentee are suppressing the vote... plain and simple... Why is ANY 65 year old year voting absentee any more secure than a 25 year old voting absentee?

So, your position is that anybody that wants to vote absentee should be allowed without any good reason whats so ever. Oh, here is a good one----"I hate this country and all of its traditions and rules"

Hell yes that is my position... My vote is a RIGHT... It's none of your business why I choose to vote absentee... What "good reason" does someone over 65 have that I don't?

I don't think any State has quite the system Colorado has, it really is the gold-standard for how to run a mail-in system.

Denver has decided to mail out ballots as first class mail to make sure they get to people quickly enough. I intend to use the secure drop box at the DMV to return my ballots, as per usual, since its in between my home and work.

Other States...well mail-in systems in general are not so tough. They can put something together to help deal with the pandemic, they had plenty of time to do so. But I see no reason why all the States shouldn't adopt Colorado's system of a mail-in system. IMO, mail-in voting is the best system for voting and we have a very complete and secure system for doing so.

I don't get it. If they have 17 days, how can they call a winner election night?

It would depend on how the vote tallies are coming out. If Biden is up by more than the ballots left to count, they can easily call it. They can also see how the votes are coming in and project. Recounts take weeks and always find more votes, so no matter where you are, there's always more counting to do. For something like the Presidency, it's likely a no-brainer since the Democrats win California by heavy margins each year.

But if the vote tallies are close, they likely won't know until they get through their counts.

Mail-in is the intelligent method for voting systems.
